Working on adding Modifiers need pictures

I've added a photo gallery for flaxen, pangare, and sooty so I need photos to fill them up. If you have photos I can use please email them to me at admin at equine-color.info When you send them to me please include how you want the photo credits to read and be aware that I may use some of them on the modifiers page. Thanks everyone!

Daylene where were you going to put things like Bend Or's and Birdcatcher's?

I'm going to put Lace in the frame section for sure. Do you think she should be in the splash section as well? (I personally think she's obviously sabino as well, but given the other two patterns it's just too muddled for a beginner's eye IMO.)

Maigray Fri, 06/26/2009 - 22:18

Rushan on a long lead (to see his markings clearly)..

I've gotten A LOT of donations. I wish I could help Daylene more, I've sent her so many in the past few days. Saffyre Arabians actually offered up Caleyndar and Cassia, and Elechtric LC, FC Casino Royale, Rushan, Antham, Basks Bright Playboy, and Signal Bey were also presented. It was very flattering.

vneerland Sat, 06/27/2009 - 00:47
The owner of Rushan said I could use him. He exhibits flaxen, and sabino, but the flaxen faded after he was 3 years old.
Interesting! My own flaxen was more noticeably so when younger. I assumed it was food related. :? Are there any theories about the faxen fade?

On the unrelated note:
I think it would help newcomers to the color field to post the most obvious examples first, and wean off to more sublte. Possibly adding descriptions what makes it a certain pattern. JMO.

Good idea Vneer. That's something I'm willing to take on (at least the sorting, not sure about the writing  ) if everyone agrees that's a good idea.

I too have seen flaxen fade like that. Even Lace's has definitely gotten darker (she's 4 now).

Hey Maigray (and whoever else noticed): What is going on with Rushan's blaze? Is it just me or does it look like there is a perfectly elliptical hole in it? Any theories on that?

Maigray Sat, 06/27/2009 - 07:46

Rushan's blaze is a quirk I've always attributed to specifically to sabino. One other Arabian stallion was famous for it, name of Muscat. I've heard it called the question mark blaze.

If you want to organize, I'll do the writing. I love the writing.

What about a historical section? There are lots of old pictures with interesting patterns that could be referenced. How does copyright apply in those instances?

Or, what about a section for famous horses? Would newbies would like to know about, say, Hidalgo, or horses from The Lord of the Rings, or even older icons like Mr. Ed and Silver?

While I'm thinking on it, what about families? For instance, I have photos of Rushan, some of his direct parentage and related animals, his sons and daughters, etc. Would it be worth trying to organize a family album as a case study on certain characteristics, or would it be too confusing?

Ok that sucks i just posted a long reply but had been logged out at some point and lost it all grrr

Yes please feel free to help with the uploads. I did manage to get most of the ones you emailed me. I didn't load every picture but picked the ones I liked best and loaded them. I still have a few to go and will probably wait till Monday to start with them. I didn't get to some of the photos on this thread like I wanted to specifically Journey's photos. Acc had some problems yesterday with permissions. It wouldn't let her edit what she had uploaded so let me know if you have problems so I can get that fixed.

A historical and/or famous horse section sounds great. Feel free to work on that if you want. In order to start a new article from the home page click on "create content" in the nav bar that is to the left side of the page below the search box. Then choose the "page" option. In order to edit what you have started to have to click on "administer" then "content" and the article you would like to edit. For me the easiest way write is in full HTML but there are several different settings that you can play with. If you need help with anything just let me know.

I think that was everything lol

ACC I've been sticking the bend or and such in the "other markings" album. If we ever get enough in there we can divide it into sub-albums. Hmm that reminds me I still need to do the "other" page for things like brindle and bend or's :laugh1

If Jenks ever checks back in, she has a paint mare and her son that make super examples of sabino expression. There was another member with a real nice chestnut paint filly that had generous sabino scribbles, but I do not remember her name? Anyone?

Bodi Sun, 06/28/2009 - 19:31

What would you ladies call this?

This is Candy my Percheron mare. She is a blue roan that is going grey. Honestly it was a big key that she was roan, however I bought the mare sight unseen so it didn't make much of a difference. :) The splotching actually does get a "bluer" cast to it in the summer, and is quite dark in the winter.

I'm thinking tobiano and splash for sure. Sabino for all the roaning and smudginess of markings. Frame possibly of course. I don't see app. markings, just sabino skewing the edges.

Daylene Alford Mon, 06/29/2009 - 14:20

Hehe ya I didn't add her to the gallery because I wasn't sure how to classify her. Would not be at all surprised to find she has SB1. She just has that look. I'm wondering if perhaps she isn't a walker cross?

vneerland Mon, 06/29/2009 - 14:24

Where is Jenks? I *thought* her mares son was similar. (and she knows the parents, so it would be easier to determine what passed on and how)

Loose thought: make an 'unresolved' corner, for true questionmark horses, and offer possibilities without presenting it as fact? :?

accphotography Mon, 06/29/2009 - 14:48

The way the white curves up over her hip and croup but leaves a circle around the tail head an the large bit of shoulder white look really tobi to me.

Her body type looks classic QH/Paint to me FWIW.

Here are some questions for everybody. This is an example of 3 other horses who were donated, a sire and 2 sons. Elechtric went in as liver and Echcellerant went in as dark chestnut under Chestnut horses. Shaman went in under sooty.

Should Elechtric be crossposted for flaxen and sabino AND sooty? Should Echcellerant be crossposted for sabino and sooty? I called him dark chestnut - would he be better off called a liver chestnut? Should Shaman go in under Bay?

I ask all this because admin has indicated we can crosspost as we like, and most horses can be crossposted to some extent, like these guys. What do people think is reasonable, sensible, clear?

Heather Mon, 06/29/2009 - 15:27

I could see the argument for tobi, but Im not convinced of it jsut because Ive see a "sabino" ish horse for sale on dreamhorse once that all he had was one leg and it went around the hip LIKE a typical tobiano behind swish...

Both of the colts Jenks bred are solid.

Not bred by her, but before she got the mare. ;)

Maybe as a general rule, it would be best to go with that catches your eye the most? I the case of this stud, his light mane on the dark body would make him a good flaxen candidate. I would call it 'liver chestnut' since that might be understood better by those new to the color genetics, and feel that he makes a good sooty additon. I personally don't think I would post that one under sabino, since it is the least prominent of his features, IMO.
