Wild Bay???

After reading about the wild bay color I'm wondering if my little Arab gelding is a wild bay instead of a bay. Here is a picture of him. Thanks. Judy

Addorra2007 Fri, 07/03/2009 - 02:36

Omg there is no need to get on your knees or beg. LMAO!!! I have a picture of his sire, Rochambeau but not of his dam, Miss Kimfa. Miss Kimfa is a chestnut and Rochambeau is a bay.

just wondering...but why those combos?

Daylene Alford Fri, 07/03/2009 - 09:06

It has to do with the way wild bay is inherited. It is thought to be dominate to regular bay but that would be disproved if one was found with two classic bay or seal bay parents.

TheRedHayflinger Fri, 07/03/2009 - 09:15

I know of a mini that is said to be wild bay (was reg. as a red dun at birth) with two buckskin parents...would that help? I'm not sure to what point they are considered wild bay or normal bay though...but I'll go get his page if it would be of any help

also know of a buckskin QH that looks "wild buckskin" to me...out of a bay and by a buckskin, both of which that have generous amounts of black on legs.

Ive just been looking for this for long time...a long long long time....and whenever I get very close...my hopes get dashed.

Yep. exactly why.

Well I hope someday soon you'll get the combo for the wild bay you are looking for. Color genetics is fascinating but there is alot to absorb. I also have a grey Arabian mare who has a huge blood mark on her shoulder. I have no idea if it's inherited. On her sire's side the mare Taraszcza has a blood mark as well. Makes me wonder if it is inherited. Her left side is the only side that has the blood marks. Her right side is plain grey.

okay..here we go...the owners post on a horse forum I admin at and I remembered seeing both of these and thought parents looked non-wild

the first one: mini
this is what his owner had to say on the thread I found him at
My mini stallion from two buckskins was registered as a red dun (looked sorrel in pictures as a foal). He didn't start getting dark points til he was a yearling and they've progressed til this year (I've been told he's wild bay). I had him DNA color tested; he's bay: Ee, AA and no cream. Definitely not dun, absolutely no characteristics.
as a baby, you can see his dam behind him
[img]http://www.freewebs.com/hcminis/duncolt…]

as a weanling
[img]http://www.freewebs.com/hcminis/duncolt…]

and as a 3 year old
[img]http://www.freewebs.com/hcminis/Dakota%…]

his sire is listed on All Breed with a photo.

the Quarter Horse is next
Sir Rockabilly Skip
[img]http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk14…]
and he is the very last horse on this page
http://www.hadasusafarm.com/ourhorses.h…" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
his owner posted this on the forum about him
Red Factor: E/e - Both black and red factors detected. Either E or e transmitted to offspring. Basic color is black, bay, or brown in absence of other modifying genes.

Agouti: A/A - Black pigment distributed in points pattern. Basic color is bay or brown in the absense of other modifying genes.
his sire is Maromac Zeus, a buckskin
http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/maromac…" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; has a picture on here

his dam is Maromac Deja Vu, a bay
http://www.hadasusafarm.com/forsale.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; she is the 2nd horse listed on here

CMhorses Fri, 07/03/2009 - 16:16

You know, I posted a pic up of a buckskin that we traded and someone said he might be a wild buckskin, and he had a classic bay dam and a regular buckskin sire.

TheRedHayflinger Fri, 07/03/2009 - 16:51

http://www.pedigreequery.com/odakota" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

also found this TB filly...can't find a pic of her dam though, but know there are some TB people on here that probably could(and have the resources to do so!)

TheRedHayflinger Fri, 07/03/2009 - 18:06

and..found this one, but can't find parents, but both are bays.
http://www.chetar-arabians.com/mares_sh…" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

actually..i found a headshot of her dam here:
http://www.freewebs.com/chatahnestatepe…" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; a little less than halfway down--Venice

and just a description of sire here:
http://ahsadata.com/studbook/horsedetai…" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

maybe someone else has better resources to find full body shots of parents?

TheRedHayflinger Fri, 07/03/2009 - 18:21

were either the mini or QH I first posted of any use? Just wondering...find this interesting. I have a host of wild bay horse links on my other computer from doing photo research for someone else a couple years back....when I have time I can go through some of them and see if I have pedigrees on any. Most still work as I check my bookmarks every couple of months and remove broken links.

RiddleMeThis Fri, 07/03/2009 - 18:29

The TB may be too young.

The buckskin is too "inbetween" to be conclusive proof. Though it is an interesting example.

TheRedHayflinger Fri, 07/03/2009 - 18:42

*feels like adding to her knowledge some*

what makes the buckskin too inbetween?

TheRedHayflinger Fri, 07/03/2009 - 18:46

oh..okay..lol gotcha

does the buckskin QH work for you? (I think he's just a neat looking horse all around...lol)

RiddleMeThis Fri, 07/03/2009 - 18:54

Hes the closest Ive ever come, but he may be a year or two too young. Some of the people who I am trying to convince say they cant count on a horse having its full points until its 4 or 5. But he is definitely one I will be keeping an eye on.

CMhorses Fri, 07/03/2009 - 19:44

The one I was talking about is 4 this year,but I still think he could get points as he gets older.
