Re: white?

I think it was dominant white, or max white sabino.

Re: white?

TBs are mostly dominant white. I'll post the title of the paper once I figure out where I put it while cleaning my room.

Re: white?

Is there a visual difference between a dominant white and a maximum white sabino or tobiano horse?
I thought I remembered seeing a max white tobiano that had brown eyes and dark feet but otherwise pink skin.

Re: white?

I keep thinking about the maximum sabino 'vs.' dominant white thoughts re TBs.

ACC mentioned that the Patchen Wilkes' line was tested and were determined to be dominant whites. Has the Airdrie Apache line been tested? He produces so many white TBs, and yet a horse like Allamystique has been thought to be a maximum sabino.

Thoughts? Thanks! And great question about a visual difference, CMhorses.

Re: white?

The difference between dominant white and max-white sabino is the inheritance. Dominant white is a complete dominant gene so that one gene produces the full white effect. It is thought to be lethal in homozygous form (WW) so only Ww horses exist. Max white sabino, on the other hand, is incomplete dominant and requires two copies of the gene to have the max white effect (SB1SB1). An SB1sb1 horse generally has a lot of "normal" white markings, but not the full white effect.

Re: white?

To my knowledge, the Airdrie Apache line has not been tested. That may not actually be the case. I'm on the fence about them being SB or DW though.

I know the Puchilingui line is as Sato is.

I thought I remembered seeing a max white tobiano that had brown eyes and dark feet but otherwise pink skin.

My understanding is that tobiano alone can not make a max white horse. Other than the pink skin it sounds like a horse that went grey... any chance of tobiano plus grey on that one? If not, there was probably another pattern gene helping the tobiano along.

Re: white?

Could have been a max sabino who happened to have tobiano.
