What shade will my new Buckskin grow up to be??

I have a yearling Buckskin. Foaled Nov 08. At 5 months old she was a perfect clean deep cream beige. Next photo is just before she was picked up and she had light winter fluff on her belly (so probably a fluffy cream puff over winter) BUT there was heaps of "burnt buckskin" shading which is fading again as her summer coat is coming through. She should be fully in her summer coat but the weather has been CRUD!! Whats the trend for "burnt" shading?? If its moulting out will she be likely to summer the perfect clean buckskin and get shading seasonally?? Also where they had planned to brand her was the clean colour with out the shading. Thanks

Hmmm hope they worked. First is the photo that I saw when I bought her, photo at end of summer. 2nd is the day after she arrived at the end of winter. Shes been here a few weeks now and the winter coat thats coming out is the light puffy bits and the darker bits by the look of it!! I'm hoping that she is just seasonally burnt?? Does this even happen?? I know Pallys can take a few years to settle into their colour. Are Buckskins the same??

Thanks

My Buckskin Welsh mare was a different colour every single season!!!
Some years she would have lots of "sooty" some years she would be blonder with dapples, always lighter in winter, though.
I do think it is just the luck of the draw.

Hmm let me guess...you're in Australia aren't you? lol.

"burnt" can mean one of several things here (in Oz, usually only heard with the word Buckskin) - Brown, Black (which technically is not Buckskin) or Sooty.

She's definitely not Brown or Black based, however she maybe Sooty which may or may not be evident before the first foal shed.

 Nope, not an Aussie LOL even better.... A New Zealander!!

Shes probably halfway back to the colour in the first photo now her winter coats nearly gone. I guess she'll be like the bays that have all the shading in winter but not summer by the looks. Fingers crossed!! Is sooty seasonal??

I have a mare who is a really nice golden buckskin but when she sheds, she sheds the golden hairs first leaving a black pony. Then the black hairs shed and she returns to gold. It's annoying in that I have to be on top of her grooming, otherwise I don't show her until she sheds.
Not sure on your girl, but she's cute!
Oh dear.. the lingo has jumped the ditch! lol- maybe it can stay there??? lol!

Yep, Sooty can be seasonal.
Ha Ha.... So long as its the lingo and not the people jumping the ditch mwah ha ha ha.... although I must admit my brother is now a proud aussie.... he he he

Shes a little sweetie. Had next to no handling when she arrived and is pretty easy really. Bit unsure, but she looks for me to help when I put pressure on so we're 10 steps in the right direction!! Shes an "eastcoast bred" - one of New Zealands favorite mongrels (usually with a big chunk of clyde) off the hill country stations.

But her mother suffered with the big drought 18 months ago so I'm not sure if she'll ever make her full potential for size :-( Going by parents she should be EMH 15.2 or 3 but the previous owner approximated EMH 15. I'm a bit worried she won't make 15 though as the pinto is the same age EMH 15.3. Not sure if shes growing already or if I'm just used to her now LOL. Ha Ha :BH I need to stop worrying, she will be what she will be :P
Is she a coming yearling now?? How tall is she at this age??
;) Ooooh I must have had her about 5 weeks now cause she turned a year old 27 Nov 09 and that was just after I got her!!

Measuring leg bone then flipping tape to over wither made 14.2 :? (The very minimum I would ride, but I'm 5'8ish so would love bigger)

Just guessing she would be 12.2 at the moment. (Just did a wall measure to halfway up my boob LOL)

Shes put on condition nicely and I'm hoping the good life will help her catch up but I guess thats just luck really, from what I've seen some never reach their full potentail after a period of being hard done by and others do. But her mother suffered in the first drought and she possibly suffered herself in the second. This is why I got her for a very reasonable cost.

I would expect a full hands growth on a yearling, but it does seem to depend on breed(obviously I don't expect a full hand on a Mini, for example, but going by my Arabs and part breds, that is what I used to get.) You can add two inches for the sake of argument, and that would give you a 14 hand adult.
