Re: What patterns?
lol Krickette!
I joined because someone had brought me such a pretty dark bay mare to start and I wanted to buy her because I loved her so... and I was curious what colors I could get if I bred her to the cremello stallion whose name I have forgotten at the moment (Cisco's sire) and I was SO confused about what smoky black was!
The mare was Isabelle.
Re: What patterns?
Oh wow! And you never even bred her to GG or any cremello did you?
I came because I was told Lacy was a red dun and I wanted to know what color she was going to shed out too. Then the more I looked for photos of red duns the more I wondered what she really was. The more I looked for others marked like her, the more I wondered what patterns she might have and be able to produce. It just kinda started as one little question that rolled into a big ball of interest. I didn't know I would become such a genetics freak. Although I do remember being fascinated by non horse related genetics when I was quite a bit younger, but never to this extent.
Re: What patterns?
I for two reasons. First, I had just been given an appaloosa and had no clue as to what to call him (now I know that he is a bay varnished roan snow cap splashed white :rofl ). Second, I was taking a course on animal genetics and the lecture on horse colors made no sense at all to me. My very first post was after I had been lurking for awhile and I wanted to know what my fjords were.
Re: What patterns?
I first joined because my Dad and I enjoyed horses he usually bred one or two every couple of years. I had read Sponenberg's book (back in 1995) and wanted to learn more. I found the original site and joined. I joined in right about the time Lewela (sp?) quit posting but mostly lurked.
Re: What patterns?
I joined so that yall could dash my hopes to the ground (then raise them, then dash them, then stomp on them, then bring them back to life, then abandon them in a ditch somewhere) and tell me Jazz is grey, lol!
