What colour is she?

I have a mare at the barn that I am not sure just what colour someone would call her. I see Frame (and yes I am pushing the owner to test) but I also think not just frame as she has the four white legs. Rabianco with the body white and tail. Plus she has something under her jaw that I would call rabianco as well? Here are the photos. **Yes we all know she needs her feet done. Owner has only had her back for a few days. Thanks everyone

My stallions always keep themselves leaner.....Toby, D.C and Carlos are still out together and really feel it is time they were out with their mares......well, not D.C he is just a yearling, but he is ready willing and able to give a hand wherever it is required....he says!!!
So they are pacing up and down and chasing each other round the field...I really have the most even tempered entires I could hope for, Carlos is Big Boss but so tolerant of the "boys" it's not true.
I am a convert to this way of keeping them as they are as happy as pigs in mud, they can see the mares in the distance but not get close enough for it to cause friction, and it keeps all the usual "hormonal hysterics" to a minimum, which pleases me no end.

Sara, to answer the question on Minis, Yes, IMO, 85% of the people showing today keep their animals thin in an attempt to make them look finer than they are...it is also really noticeable that animals imported form the states look nothing like the pictures on the US Websites after they have been here for a little while.
I was told in all seriousness by someone that you could not let Minis out on grass, you could not bed them on straw and you fed them a handful of hay after which you muzzled them.
And this, day in, day out, is how their horses lived!!!
Otherwise, you see, they either got a "hay belly" or colicked.
I asked him if any of mine, stalled next to his at this show and tucking into a half bale of really good grass hay between two yearlings, looked as if they had hay bellies or were colicking...they were knee deep in straw.
And in good condition, too.
They also beat all of his at the show the next day and took the Championship.
But, still, he did not understand...there is none so blind as those that do not want to see.
I draw a parallel between this and the TWH "soring", although with Minis it is more insidious and less easy to prove, but the facts are the same....if you cannot get what you want by correct training and conditioning, FORCE them into the mould you want them to fit.
UGH!!!!
And do not even get me started on check reins!!!!!!

a-ha, perhaps that IS why Cory is leaner (being a stallion). All I know is that he isn't as round as the others and it suits him. :)

Yes RF I agree - the other thing of course is make-up and airbrushing to produce some of the pictures we see from the States of AMHA horses.

I have always been careful how much grass my minis get but they have at least 10 hours turnout a day in a small paddock which is moved a small amount daily and they are happier like that although now with Cherish - I'm not so sure grass is a good idea ! The vet said I could turn her out with a grazing muzzle on...?? I said no I wouldn't because that would mean she would have to be turned out on her own which was unfair..she didn't get it...I explained that if you put a muzzle on them they can't mutually groom ect..and that is not fair ! We agreed to turn her out only after dark, so when she is sound again which is not at the mo, she will be turned out.

A lot of UK AMHA breeders are now getting those treadmill type mini exercisers - I'm not too keen on this and the fact that some owners and breeders have taken the USA way of keeping these minis so lean has meant an increase in death by colic too - such a shame. :(

My biggest rant at the moment is fat ponies but I have seen what your talking about in minis and even in some cobby 'sport horses' who are starved into looking 'lighter' (although they still have a lot of bone for a 'spot horse' even with the feet trimmed to death).

I want bark paddocks to go with my grass ones. I can turn out in groups 24/7 and still adjust between time at grass and time with hay depending on how green its getting. Yay.

Not that I have groups to turn out.

Or any paddocks.

Oh well. I will get there.

So Luna isn't the only one who drops weight in the Spring - lol most of the time he is a rolly-polly, but come spring he trims down to a svelt fighting weight.

Edit to add pixs - Even though I up his concentrates and add fats, he has dropped about 50-75 lbs. The first one he is flexing to "do his thing" and the second is back to the pacing, he is stretching out to make his "right turn" infront of the gate - AGAIN (Maya, Goldie and Patches on other side)

Rabbit used to look like a rake at this time of year, and stall walking did not cover what he did, there were footprints on the ceiling!!!!
I have video of him in this condition where I can honestly say he would give any American in the ring on either side of the water a run for it's money, you cannot buy condition like that, he'd have done a days hunting if a Leprechaun had needed a ride!!!
I think some entires have altogether too much energy...Carlos constantly paces the filed on the lookout for bears...he's done an excellent job as we have seen NO bears in this district for, oh, let me see....three hundred years??? :rofl
