what colour mini?

A friend has asked me to post her mini mare ....

rabbitsfizz Fri, 01/15/2010 - 08:30

Silver Black Dun.
Without the dapples, I might have suggested she was just Black Dun, but the dapples I have never seen, that heavy, on a Black Dun.

accphotography Fri, 01/15/2010 - 12:45

From the first photo I could buy that Fizz, but the second photo looks really silver to me... doesn't it? I don't even see the dun in the 2nd photo. Both photos were really needed in this case.

rabbitsfizz Fri, 01/15/2010 - 13:41

The second photo, were it not a Mini, I would almost have said Silver Buckskin......or just weird. :rofl
It's a Mini, c'mon!
Anyway I have to admit to prior knowledge on this one, but, even so, I have seen Minis that were weirder colours!

supaspot60 Fri, 01/15/2010 - 16:28

silver buckskin might not be that far fetched .... both parents are reg buckskin , the sires parents are reg dun and buckskin , the dams parents are reg as silver buckskin and brown

is it possible she could be a silver dunskin , the horse in this link is not dissimilar

accphotography Sat, 01/16/2010 - 00:42

Nope. Not if that first photo is her too. That's an 'aa' base for sure IMO. Although, the second photo could leave me to believe it might be silver, dun AND cream.

rabbitsfizz Sat, 01/16/2010 - 10:25

Damn, the Forum ate my post!!!
OK, trying again....
She looks a straightforward Silver Black Dun to me.
You can throw Cream into the mix if it is a possibility, and she would be Smoky Silver Black Dun :rofl
Give me her name and I'll look up what the AMHA says, if you like??

Blue Moon Miniatures Sat, 01/16/2010 - 16:09

Hi all, I own the mare :)

Her AMHA says buckskin, but you can look her up anyway

Dreamtime Louella Buck is her name.

supaspot60 Sat, 01/16/2010 - 16:13

Both her parents are Buckskin according to her papers. She has Amber/brown eyes too, she is quite unusual

Sire's parents are
buckskin and dun

mothers parents are
Silver buckskin and brown.

So its possible that her mom could be a silver buckskin instead of Buckskin....
does this help ???
quote...

sure she is dun something, She produced a light creamy buckskin colt with black mane and tail with a dorsal and stips going down each of his shoulders like a X

When he clipped out he was extemely brown like her filly foal but had the light creamy muzzle.......I think ill go ahead and test her for cream, silver and is ther a dun factor test

winter coat..

Blue Moon Miniatures Sat, 01/16/2010 - 16:55

yep, her eyes are pretty odd, here is a pic i accidentally took yesturday

The front of her face, she has like a mask..

This years filly, i'm pretty sure she is smokey black? Sire is Silver Dapple

accphotography Sat, 01/16/2010 - 20:28

Absolutely no doubt in my mind she's a black silver dun with that pedigree and those photos. Although I still think cream would be possible.

Blue Moon Miniatures Sat, 01/16/2010 - 20:37

what is her filly? She has a lightish cream muzzle and cream inside her ears...

accphotography Sat, 01/16/2010 - 21:10

Call me insane (I'll accept it  ) but I think she's a smokey silver black. If she's not, then a crazy dark chestnut. Those legs are way too red for a non chestnut or non silver.

accphotography Sat, 01/16/2010 - 23:17

Definitely definitely black base. Do you know of her eye color at birth? It looks like it could be bluey later... which isn't proof, but could indicate cream. She could easily be smokey black. The question is if silver is present. Many people would say no way... but her red legs intrigue me. However, she was pretty bleached at the time and they didn't start red... so it could just be bleached foal coat.

Blue Moon Miniatures Sun, 01/17/2010 - 05:49

Hiya, she had greyblue eyes and now are still a greyish blue tinge to them.

rabbitsfizz Sun, 01/17/2010 - 09:38

Buckeroo bred, so def. Silver.
Ohgodohgodohgod.....I'm sorry ACC, ....I agree about the foal........I think she may be Black base with Cream hiding and Silver inhibited by the Cream....and I think she should be tested ASAP so we know!!! :rofl

rabbitsfizz Mon, 01/18/2010 - 09:12

Thank you so much, I do love a cooperative breeder!!

ACC and I will be giggling over by there in the corner, if anyone wants us. :rofl :booty :rofl

Hi Guys,

Im about to send away mane hairs. I thought I would send hairs away for the mare first.

What should I test her for? I was thinking of testing her for red/black factor and Agouti. Cream and Silver too.

Is this correct?

Here are updated photo's of her filly. She still has greyish eyes.

Don't think there is any silver hiding with her.

Yes I agree, silver, cream, agouti and black. You could test her for dun if you wanted. The filly I would only test for red and cream, everything else I think we know.
