What colour are these 3 ponies?

Ok. Mare 1. Whom is the dam of this gal (whom is by a Chestnut Pintaloosa), Mare 2.

Kylie_80 Fri, 04/09/2010 - 10:55

Mare 2 is the dam of this filly whom is also by a Chestnut Pintaloosa.
The filly is going the same colour as Mare 2, her dam... i guess they are all kinda the same shade.

Silver coloured i guess, maybe grey but not grey?

No idea, lol.

*please not all pics not taken by me, or before i bought Mare 2 & filly foal, i don't own Mare 1.

Kylie_80 Fri, 04/09/2010 - 22:30
Definitely not gray. Mare 1 is black appaloosa of some sort. Mare 2 is black tobiano + splash. Foal 3 appears to be bay/brown tobiano.
I don't think Mare 2 is Black, she's not Black like my other Pinto mare, but up close & personal (i'll get pics on Monday, about to head off for the weekend showing), she's got a Silver colour to her with white ticking. Hard to explain, i need better pics, lol.
The foal was born Bay/white but under her foal coat she's the colour as mum, Mare 2, i'll get pics of her Mon too.

Thanks accphotography, have a great weekend. :toast

Yup ^ I agree.

The ticking (white hairs) is fairly common and usually blamed on Sabino.

rabbitsfizz Sun, 04/11/2010 - 11:01

No, I don't.
I think the first mare is Sabino + Splash, no Appy.
I think the pinto mare is Silver base and I think the foal is Bay Pinto, probably no Silver!

accphotography Sun, 04/11/2010 - 11:08

I am 100% confident the first mare is appy. She has bronze points and striped hooves on solid legs.

I am willing to consider the second mare to have silver, but her body doesn't look it to me. It's just her forelock... which could be explained by other things.

Kylie_80 Sun, 04/11/2010 - 12:00

Previous owner of Mare 1 has just said she's not Palouse but unsure how much "certainty" there is in that statement. Don't know her parentage at this stage.

I'll get decent pics in the morning, i personally doubt Mare 2 is Black (with ticking) as she's not typically "Black", i have a true Black Tobiano & a true Black with heavy ticking & she's not like either of these 2 in colour (shade of) etc.

Will post pics tomoz. :toast

Songcatcher has/had a mare who was "chocolatety" coloured with a paler mane and tail (think she was also minimum Tobi), who tested neg for Cream and Silver- so it *is* possible yours is just Black.

EDIT! Actually I'm not sure now as I can't find anywhere that says she's been tested (other than for Tobi) I think I got her mixed up with another of his (Songcatchers) mares who is a tested Smokey Black.
hmm.

rabbitsfizz Mon, 04/12/2010 - 03:14

ACC I can see why you are thinking Appy, I would normally go for the simplest answer, as you know.
But I have seen too many Minis with Sabino no Appy, marked like this to think the striped hooves were linked to Appy as opposed to Sabino.
I am 99% sure the mare is Sabino but concede she may have Appy as well, as, bringing the picture up some, you can see what may be Appy spots on her rump.
But I am still sure it is the Sabino making her the basic pattern.
For me the Pinto is a classic Silver Bay Pinto.

Carlos only has the "dapples" in winter coat, so take them off in the minds eye (and I shall also get summer pictures of my horses I promise!!)

accphotography Tue, 04/13/2010 - 11:23

Those do not look like the striped hooves I've seen on a silver or sabino, nor do the bronze points. I'm willing to say I could be wrong, but I think a closer picture will make it more clear.

Kylie_80 Thu, 04/15/2010 - 00:10

I took these yesty...

Mare 2.

Foal o/o Mare 2. Yes she's Bay ain't she, LOL.

Kylie_80 Thu, 04/15/2010 - 00:18

Mare 2 again.

Foal again, disregard the mukky eye, she's not wearing a flymask, & very disgusted with it on her little face LOL.

Someone has said Mare 2 is Black, i spose now with those pics i see it, but she's not "black" like my other 3 blacks (2 pintos, 1 solid).

rabbitsfizz Thu, 04/15/2010 - 09:43

Yes, from those pictures I would say the mare is Bay, and Sabino + Tobiano is messing with her mane colour a bit, that and sunbleaching.....
Anymore of mare 1??

Fledgesflight Thu, 04/15/2010 - 23:06

Mare two still looks Black ( and with possibly nothing else going on!), and her foal looks more Brown rather than Bay, in these new pictures.

rabbitsfizz Fri, 04/16/2010 - 08:58

OK, you are quite right.
I think my brain went away for Easter and is yet to return...
MARE is BLACK base, +Sabino, FOAL is bay....make sense????
Who me???? :rofl

Body isn't showing "appy", face makes me think "grey", that one front hoof and back hoof make me think "appy". So, as this is a mini, I have NO clue. :rofl

NZ Appaloosas Thu, 04/22/2010 - 21:09
IME you can also get striped hooves with Sabino....
without some sort of sock on the leg with the striped hoof?

Diane

NZ Appaloosas Thu, 04/22/2010 - 21:15

Okay...I was sitting here racking my brain trying to remember the non-apps I've had and their hoof/sock status...may not be many of them, but there's definitely a long time span since I last anything non-appy! (Don't count the two standy rescues, since they're appy at heart :booty )

Kylie_80 Sat, 05/15/2010 - 00:42

A pic of Mare 2 with head clipped out.
She's very "Silver" & not the yukky colour some Blacks go. ;)

Doesn't show the colour too well, that's on the old cam - i should get a pic or 2 on the new fancy camera!

slaneyrose Sun, 05/16/2010 - 01:54

Definitely not silver because regardless of the clipped colour, the forlock and part of the mane is black too!! If it was silver the whole mane would be silver/white. :flower

spot I didnt realise you owned Platinum??? She is a pretty mare. :love
