What colour?

Smokey black I'd assume? And didn't get whatever white patterns the sire is

bonjovifan Thu, 02/17/2011 - 19:16

she is obviously dilute because of her dam but was tested by her breeder as carrying cream & LWO-

bonjovifan Thu, 02/17/2011 - 19:49

no not tested for silver, no silver that i can find in the pedigree either.

Danni Thu, 02/17/2011 - 20:30

The LWO is interesting, the no white LWO's seem to turn up now and then in the mini's! I wonder if it's that extreme white supression that seems to sometimes happen in them?

It might be. I've begun to see it a fair bit in big horses though. I think it may just be (at least int he case of big horses) that people are just now realizing they need to test even those too.

Reminds me of 'Mira' my silver bay mare, just slightly darker.

lipigirl Fri, 02/18/2011 - 04:47

Agreed that silver could easily hide in there or could simply be another weird 'mini horse' expression of smokey black.

Looks almost identical to my gelding Cruiser, who is (tested) a silver black (mine has no cream). Can't post pics since I'm on my phone but go to mini geldings page on my website, and there's a link to his photo album

This is my Savannah (mare) who is silver black. I think your horse has silver too.

It would not have to have Silver to be that colour, it could easily just be Smoky Black, is Dun possible, and was the sire tested as Buckskin or is that the Oz "Black Buckskin" ie Smoky Black?

bonjovifan Sun, 02/20/2011 - 16:09

lol oh yes he is referred to as 'black buckskin'.

the silver is very interesting! was certainly not expecting that, was more along the lines of smokey black or smokey brown? can't see any silver in the pedigree, if there was it is coming from her dam line, mum & grandam are cremello's & her grandam is of unknown breeding so could be hiding there.

he reminds me of the foal i worked with one summer, was a smokey black dun. He's been sold now but his name was moose :)
