Beautiful stallion you have there ! I think the foal is possibly being affected by roan unless you know that the stallion or dam carries cream i think that would be the best answer for his colouring....and yes I do see dun as well but do not see it in the parents so could be countershading.

Hard to tell prior to foal shed, plus Lp can 'funkify' black.

The foal has what looks like a dorsal but then as said could just as well be countershading.

Well before I got to parents or your comments I was thinking black or smokey black, but no idea which!! I don't see dun? Lucky we have colour testing!!

Black base, no Dun (that's a very common false dorsal.) [false] Snowcap.
Nice foal, when was he born, he is well wrapped up in his winter woollies!!
