What color foal?

Re: What color foal?
I think he may be Red base....but I think he is going Grey for sure.
And on the subject of Spanish I was instructed quite curtly by a Spaniard that Grullo does not change with the sex of the animal, and I was given the grammatical reason but I can do Grammar perfectly but I don't speak it, if you know what I mean, I would not know a Gerund from a Pronoun in a well lit room, so it all went in one ear and out t'other.
And of course is pronounced sort of V ...say B with your mouth open and you've got it!!!
We tend to forget that, as with American and English, Mexican and Spanish have evolved differently.........
Mexican says their S's for a start, a lot of Spaniard's still stick to "th", which suits me as I have always had a lisp!!!
Fascinating language, fascinating people...!Establecer Cataluña libre!
Re: What color foal?
It probably had something to do with the word for horse being masculine. If you think about it that is the word that "grullo" would be modifying in a sentence(even if it is only implied):
He/she is (a) grullo (horse).
el/ella es (un caballo) grullo
The gender of the noun , as a word, is sometimes independent of the actual biological gender of what you are talking about.
I supose grulla would work with yegua (mare) but thats not at all as common as just saying "horse" (caballo). Not to metion the tongue twisting factor involved in "yegua grulla"
And since we are speaking English and borrowing the word, we do not use such declensions and we should stick to one or the other.
Re: What color foal?
Huh. I want to ask a native speaker (from Mexico). I know horse is masculine but I figured it changes because horses are pets and are referred to as having their own gender rather than the generic "he".
Even on Tickle's papers her color is listed as chestnut sabina -- feminine because she is a mare.

What can you tell me about Harley's parents? What is he bred for? Can he be double registered AQHA and NFQHA? How big will he get?
Re: What color foal?
Based on that pedigree I would suspect that he could be dual reg. in AQHA & NFQHA seeing as he has everything from King to Whimpy; Three Bars to Hancock; and Hank to Leo in his pedigree (most multiple times). I could not hazard a guess on his percentage, but it will probably be pretty high. And of course, I vote red dun... :love
Re: What color foal?
Ok, I just got back from my summer internship and drove by the Equine Center yesterday. I saw Harley and he is either a VERY bleached grullo(he looks yellowish) or is a Bay dun. I'm leaning towards bay dun but I will try to get some pictures here in the next week or so.
Re: What color foal?
Am I seeing some gray hairs over his eyes?

Re: What color foal?
Just saw Harley yesterday, couldn't get pics cause he was too far away and I wasn't allowed in the pasture for liability reasons since school isn't in session yet. But he is 100% Bay dun with a lot of sooty from what I saw. And the people there didn't even kow what color he was, I got vaired guesses" red dun, grey, bay, bay dun...I really need to get up close pics of him and get them on here so we can figure out what he is. His sire, Boot Scootin Spark could very well carry the bay gene couln't he? As the dark grey mare in the pics is Harley's dam and she looks black based to me.
Re: What color foal?
Yes, I really, really think the red could shed out. I've seen it happen several times. I still think grullo. I would be pulling hair on this one if he were mine.
