Welshie cave in =/

So I might finally be caving into the ponies and the apps. I might be getting two welsh or welsh cross ponies and an appy mare that a lady can no longer take care of, still waiting on pics. The ponies sound like they might be decent resale projects with some training, but the appy sounds like she might be staying here because she has a timid temperament, but we'll see. I'll post pics later on when I find out what's going on.

Really cannot do better than a Welsh Pony, they just are the best.
They take a while to "make" but they are worth the wait.
Never, ever, try to force a Welshie, always outwit them!

I won't know bloodlines, the two ponies are black welsh/app crosses, and the other is a bay loud snowflake with a blaze I do believe, they pics she sent me weren't very good, but I may be going to see them on Saturday and snap some pics hopefully. She rescued them 2 1/2 years ago a woman had a huge breeding farm where she was letting all her horses free breed with each other and they were starving and not being taken care of at all, sos he rescued them from there, but has recently had to sell a good portion of her land and doesn't have room for them, they look to be in really good health, so that's good, I think they'l just need some training, but why do they have to be black and bay snowflake! =( I'm a sucker for blacks and anything with a pretty pattern! I'm going to end up having 25 horses again next spring, but my hunter gelding may be going back to his old owner because she thinks she can find a place for him while still being in the airforce so that'll take me down 1, and my 31 year old mare, it seems like the time is starting to draw near, she's really slowed down the last couple months =(

So true!!! P'rose knows she can pull anyone any where, so if you set into the lead rope...off she goes! (usually just to eat grass) But if you leave the slack in the lead rope and let her bonk into the end of it when you change directions she will not be out smarted! ( a backup if she is walking faster than me, or a sharp right turn if I have the room...a sharp left turn if she laggs, and a pop on the rope if she bulls her head down to eat)

The more we work together this way the more people oriented and respectful she behaves. Almost wanting the Praise despite her Pride (and you wonder why she has a P' on her name  )

ETA I am considering keeping her as a pack and cart pony for my self when Pierce outgrows her...

I'm either going Friday evening or Saturday morning to see the ponies, the bay snowflake mare is about 14.1, the gelding is about 14 hands and I believe the black mare is about 13.2, but the two blacks may still have some growth left in them, but will definitely remain ponies, but I will be able to grab some pictures when I go so everyone can see. =) I should probably have them delivered to my farm next weekend.

RF :rofl , And if you aren't smarter than a Welshie? :bounce Pick a QH, they can always make you feel smarter than you really are :booty .

I'll second that I love my guys to death, but some of them really are just dumb as rocks! My poor bay mare who has Impressive breeding in her, she's gorgeous, but no brain cells =(

Sara Wed, 03/31/2010 - 11:07

Haha, that would be my Oldenburg. All beauty, no brains. They're affectionately called "dumb-bloods" for a reason. My Swedish mare on the other hand... smartest horse I've ever worked with. Nearly as smart as some of the ponies. I don't know where she got her brains!

:rofl They really did seem to breed the brains out of the pleasure and halter types! All the cow and ranch bred ones I've had have been brilliant but the others are just big lovable dorks. V at least is halfway between them, smart enough to "get" what you are telling her to do but dumb enough not to come up with 50 reasons why not.
I'm still puzzled about my palomino though, she's half Arabian: why is she SO dense???? :hammer It has to be the color. :rofl

Sara Thu, 04/01/2010 - 11:58
Cos Swedish Warmbloods are big ponies.... :rofl
I think you're right. Rosalynn is a big pony and the mare *tentatively* booked to Cory is. ;)

Actually I used to be madly in love with a Swedish mare belonging to one of my trainer's clients and she was a big Arab. That's what everyone thought anyway... but she was by the Olympic stallion Juvel and out of a TB mare, I think. She was about as hot as they come, drop dead gorgeous (bright bay with chrome) and bucked me off on numerous occasions.

Are palominos stupid? Diana isn't, and neither is Texas. The jury is still out on little Bree...

JazzyPaintsnQtrs Thu, 04/01/2010 - 12:31

Yeh the pleasure and halter horses don't have brains, but my other guys are to smart for their own good!

rabbitsfizz Fri, 04/02/2010 - 12:17

I'm blonde :sign
It's not true what they say, I have an IQ of 175....er....I had an IQ of 175, nowadays I have the IQ of a gerbil.
That's what a combination of early onset Alzheimer's and getting knocked on the head will do to you..... :rofl

JazzyPaintsnQtrs Fri, 04/02/2010 - 12:46

So I'm going to see the ponies tomorrow, so should have some pictures to share tomorrow afternoon! :D

Andrea Fri, 04/02/2010 - 12:48

Yay!

FTR... I was blonde too... Now my hair is dark. I tell people it's because I've gotten smarter with age... :rofl

Sara Fri, 04/02/2010 - 12:50

I was blonde, turned dark, and now am lightening back up again but I don't know if that's blonde or grey... :P

rabbitsfizz Fri, 04/02/2010 - 14:05

Most Blondes go darker as they get older, I started off white blonde (Swiss Grandmother) as was my mother, and went "mousey" and am now going sort of grey.

Andrea Fri, 04/02/2010 - 14:20

I joke with my husband as his hair turns from black to silver... "You're going blonde!" LOL.

Krickette Fri, 04/02/2010 - 23:59

haha! People joke that I may as well be blonde some times :P
I'm apparently really smart. Like mensa smart, but my parents never told me my IQ and tbh i really dont want to know. But I'll be the first to admit I have no common sense. And lately I'm more oblivious than usual.

Can't wait to see pics of the ponies!

critterkeeper Mon, 04/05/2010 - 19:20

Well I know Goldie is anything but dumb - confoundit!!!

I was born with dark, dark brown/black (think seal) hair with one quarter-sized silver spot in it (very noticable...lol). As I got older my hair got lighter until by the time I was 25 I was platinum blond, or so everyone thought - it was actually silver grey and has stayed that color so my hair looks the same as it did when I was 25... :love . P.S. my IQ is the lowest of the females in my family at a mere 155 (my sister is 175 like RF, mom was 160).
