Well wishes please...

Well one of my dogs is sick. He started vomiting a few days ago, and we called the vet and they said its probably just an upset stomach give it a couple days and if hes not better to bring him in. Well still not better so we brought him in this morning. They gave him fluids because he hasnt been eating well, and they want to make sure he doesn't get dehydrated. They gave him anti nausea meds. They took xrays, and our doctor said his liver looked slightly enlarged to her, but when she showed it to her more experienced colleague that they said it didnt look enlarged. They took blood work and got it back a few hours ago, tried to call but we missed it. Talked to a friend who works there who managed to talk to the doctor, and they want us to bring him in first thing in the morning as they may want to hospitalize him. So please send well wishes, prayers, and anything else like that this way please. Heres a picture of the little guy [img]http://photos-d.ak.fbcdn.net/photos-ak-snc1/v1977/19/69/529244494/n5292…] And another, hes on the right [img]http://photos-d.ak.fbcdn.net/photos-ak-snc1/v1979/19/69/529244494/n5292…]

Well we just got back from the vet. :(

We got the results from the blood tests this morning. He had a high white blood cell count and a high count for something to do with his kidneys. They did a urine test and it was really diluted so something is wrong with his kidneys. The vet thinks it may be an infection in his kidneys so they are keeping him in the hospital with IV fluids and IV antibiotics to the tune of $300 a day.

So more prayers please....not out of the woods yet sadly. :(

Thanks for the well wishes so far.

I'm sending prayers and thought! I hope he gets better quickly!
Ouch at $300 a day! What are they doing that costs that much??? I can't imagine him doing anything but sitting in a cage...
I wonder if you brought him in once a day for the IV, if you could hospice at home?
Sorry, it just seem so extreme and $$$.
At any rate, I hope he pull through!

Bad advice from a vet to suggest a 'stomach upset' and attach 'wait a couple of days' to the assumption! Stomach problems that fix themselves don't usually last but 24 hours. Simple at-home remedies should even start to show results in that time frame. Kidney problems can range from simple enough (add special diet) to lethal. No dialasys for dogs :( And at times, the decreased kidney activity is caused by something else. I hope you have the 'simple' failure. One of my dogs has had one of those for the past 5 years of her now 15 year life.

They will also be doing at least one urine test and one blood test every day to see how his levels are doing.

Personally I prefer that my dogs are at the vet when they are sick like this. Constant monitoring by people who have much more experience in these problems then I have. Cost, while it sucks, is not even a thought for our animals. They are a part of our family, and everything we have and can possibly do will be done.

Aw. That makes more sense.
I was just thinking back to our cat Tink where they charged us $150 for observation and when we picked her up we had to wait for the staff to get there and she was in a back room by herself. She died the next day  She was an awesome cat and Mike was really upset when she passed. That was the one cat that he really loved!

So sorry to hear about your cat.

No he definitely will not be alone. They have at least 5 vets there during office hours from 8 am until 6pm, but most dont leave until 8 o clock or later.

They also have the kennel staff who are there until about 10 most nights, and then back again at 6 am at the latest.

And my BF works as a kennel assistant there, along with many of our friends so hes definitely being watched and getting lots of attention.

That does not sound good. They seem to be trying to jump start the kidney function again, which leads to the almost total failure assumption.

Well we have slightly good news!

He is much more perky/lively today. Giving plenty of kisses, and even took a small bit of food from us today.

His urine and blood are being tested again today, and we are praying for lower levels!

The vet says that is a very good sign that he is still peeing, and that as soon as we can get those levels lowered, and get him eating we can probably take him home along with lots of anti biotics, and all that fun stuff LOL

But prayers are still very needed! Thank you to everyone who has prayed, and sent us well wishes this far!

Oh and here are a few more pictures of him, and a video!

Slightly bigger update today!

As of yesterday morning when our vet sent his blood work in his levels are NORMAL!!!

So the plan now is to wean him off fluids today, send more blood in, and for us to bring him home tomorrow!

But please continue to pray for us, as this journey isnt over yet!

Thanks everyone!
