Update on Unusual Filly

Remember this filly? A purebred Arabian, by a bay stallion and out of a dark/liver chestnut mare with flaxen. Got an update! Then.. I still can't really tell anything. I thought bay when I saw her as a youngster, but sooty can also create the effect. It's just hard to tell. Plus, the pangare factor seems to have popped up out of nowhere. She has a hodgepodge bloodline, but Miss Magus correctly pegged Egyptian as prominent and those lines do tend to throw the odd colors.

I think more pictures are forthcoming...

I can't tell if she still has the pangare' still or not due to the shaved muzzle. I do see her mane is darker now, but that doesn't really surprise. I don't think it will go all dark. I also think her current coat color looks more chestnut than anything, but the mane doesn't and her legs in the old photo *definitely* look bay (even considering sooty).

I don't know. I REALLY wish they'd test her. At least for extension.

Wild bay + pangare??

Kinda looks like they may have used something to darken the muzzle & around the eyes.
Looks like it to me.

I bet if she's bay, she's not actually wild.

I think the only reason the muzzle and eyes looks dark is that they shaved her down to her black skin and then oiled it. I've oiled Lace's muzzle (for health reasons) and it definitely made it blacker.

If someone dolled me up like a dog's dinner then took me to a show....I'd be wild!! :laugh1 :rofl :laugh1

I am sorry, I am SO sorry.

 imo they over did it. They should be bright, not...greasy..
She has a tiny cute nose, that makes it look bigger. :(

CMhorses Mon, 07/06/2009 - 13:00

I don't get how that looks good at all.I could see a shaved nose so no whiskers, but greasy? ick,not natural. I wonder if they were trying to hide the pangare.

The purpose is to accentuate the black skin as it adds alot to the "expression". When done correctly it's very effective.

We don't know. That's mostly what we're debating.
