underground blaze

A new (temporary) boarder arrived this morning. Anyone else would have just seen a chestnut gelding with a little white but since I'm such a NERD I took one look at him and thought "omg look at his underground blaze!" It's like a stream that goes underground for a while and then reemerges from his nostril. So cool. 8-) [img]http://lh3.ggpht.com/_FCt2uISRYy4/S7TvleT5bxI/AAAAAAAAAbA/-7aqSyQaEmI/s…]

That's a cool blaze and it looks exactly like it disapperaed and then out his nostril - I must be a nerd too

From any other angle, I probably wouldn't have given it a second thought. But, from that angle it makes you wonder about color being more than skin deep.

It certainly does make one think that. We know that it is (judging by what the lack of pigment in a homozygous frame causes and also the lack of pigment in a deaf splash's ears), but I think many people forget that and think color (lack of pigment in this case) is only on the surface. Physically it certainly appears that way but molecularly I bet it's a whole 'nother story.

This reminds me alot of those horses with partially "wiped away" blazes:

Definitely not the same, but in a similar vein:

It seems sometimes something just really wants to get rid of some of that white.

That was exactly my thought when I noticed it. I had seen this horse before at a show and didn't think anything of his blaze but I saw him from a certain angle when he came in to my barn and immediately thought of that.

I was reading this the other day than down the paddock looking at horses.....as you do...hehe...and notice our old aqha mare has a similar thing going on on her face where the white almost looks to go underground down her face....so thought I would contribute a couple of shots of her....she is rather plain in the head but a lovely bodied old girl, she is in foal to our pally paint boy.
