This month we will be celebrating a few firsts for the family. The first holiday in my Grandmas retirement home. The first time I am cooking a turkey on my own. The first time the family is bringing all the food already cooked. The first time I'm in charge of Thanksgiving. It's a bit unnerving for me, I can take criticism in other departments, but I'm not used to negative comments on my food, and I'm trying new things this year, and cooking the turkey in a different way then we have before for the last 25 years.
I'm making
A Brine for my turkey with herbs, spices, oranges and tangerines
Citrus and Rosemary Turkey
Pan Gravy
Sausage and Vegetable Sourdough Stuffing (couldn't find Kale anywhere tho, so might change that)
Roasted Carrots, Parsnips, Brussel Sprouts, Petite Sweet Potatoes, and Colorful Fingerling Potatoes
Corn Pudding
Homemade Yeast Rolls and Wheat Rolls (from Scratch baby!)
Sweet potato pecan pie
Kentucky Bourbon Cake
Whipped Chive Butter
Real Whipped Cream
Other people are bringing:
Mashed Potatoes
Fried Green Beans
Green Bean Casserole (It's not a holiday unless someone makes a Casserole LOL)
Pecan Pie
Pumpkin Pie
Fruit Salad
So whats on your table this year? And if you don't do thanksgiving, what do you usually have if your family gets together for the winter time?
Wow that is a lot of food! I
Wow that is a lot of food! I usually always cook the turkey as my mom is over it LOL, she's happy just to let me do that. My mom always bakes the best pumpkin pie's to bring over though she makes the crust too . no store bought crusts. Other that that we have cream cheese celery, stuffing, mashed potato's with gravy also made by my mom with the turkey drippings and cranberry sauce (yuk) my mom's the only one that eats that and rolls.Sparkling cider, beer and wine to drink. I think that's about it simple, but still good!
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!
I do not have nearly as much
I do not have nearly as much to make, but the spread sounds really good JN. My family is doing a pot luck this year and I'm attempting to make the broccoli casserole from an old family recipe.
