sinus problem suggestions

I have chronic sinus problem caused by allergies. The biggest problem I'm having right now is sinus headaches. I'm not wanting to take medications because of my pregnancy and was hoping that you guys might have some suggestions. Thanks, Daylene

A long discussion with your doctor is my first recommendation. Barring that, have you been trying steam, saline nasal sprays, and hot compresses?

I've been using one of those nasal rinse systems. It does seem to help but it doesn't last very long. I do plan to talk to my doctor at my next appointment which is Thursday.

pepermint oil! I have some a lady mixes into jojoba and I put it on the skin on top of sinuses. it doesn't clear them like super good or anything but it does feel good.

I suffer sinus which can cause some terrible migraines. I'd say your headaches are likely migraines too.

I do use medication but I often use a migra stick which is peppermint oil based as well. I recommend you try one (or just peppermint oil).
They're not expensive either.

When I get hayfever, I have found eating several slices of fresh pineapple helps dry it up. It's the vitamin C in it.

Use the nettie pot nasal rinse , not just the sprays , and do it 2x a day till things let up then you can back off, i use to get 2 shots a week for allergys till I became allergic to the shots and ended up in the hospital for mega reaction and near death... i have soooo many allergys .. i try not to take meds jsut because I dont liek them and I find the nettie pot helps and in my worst days I use the allergy nasal sprays and singular combo. The nettie pot get up inside deep and comes out the other nostril, they have them at wal-mart.

Good luck! I hope you find something that works for you.

The worst for me was when I was breastfeeding my daughter and I had the worst allergies ever. You can't take antihistimines when you're producing milk so I endured one summer, nearly blind from allergies. This was fourteen years ago though... I think there are some medications now that are safe for pregnant and nursing women. have you checked with your doctor?

Thanks everyone for your suggestions.

The nasal rinse I'm using is very similar to a nettie pot and it does help. I have to use it at least 2 times a day I've used it 3 times a day on the really bad days. It does make the headache go away for a while. This past weekend was really bad. The wind was blowing and I guess it was really stirring up the pollen. It cooled off last night and this morning is much better.

I have an appointment on Thursday and I plan to discuss everything. I'll let you all know how it goes.

There an update. The doctor did give me the go ahead to take both benadryl and Claratin and I have been but they don't seem to be helping much. I've spent most of today either alseep or with a warm towel over my sinus cavities. I guess the next thing to try is suedophed(sp) but they where out the last time I went to the store.

Please keep me in your prayers.
