Silver at work?

What do you guys make of this mustang stallion color? Silver? Sun bleached? There are known silver dapples in his HMA (South Steens). No way to test him since he is still on the range.

I thought this at first too, but the flaxen starts way after the dark roots, so not sure

Yep, put it to sunbleaching- he could also be Smokey/ Black..actually the more I look at him I think Black.

I don't think silver, I think more likely just sunbleaching. I think black but he could be a dark liver. The bleached ends with his still dark body do look cool.

I don't think this one is silver. I say liver chestnut because you can see some red on his fetlocks. And silver stangs are all over the place, some herds have a higher occurrence of the color then others.

 Don't see why it can't be silver. This is my silver colt, almost identical in colour, except his mane is even darker.
:rofl Mind you, could just as easily be smoky black, black or liver chestnut.
It is just guess work without a test.
Most people that see my colt in the flesh pick him as liver chestnut or are completely stumped & ask what colour he is.
Haven't had anyone that has seen him guess that he is silver, lol, apart from people that already know he is.

It does cause me to lean more towards the site being silver, yes. The foal could be something else but it really looks silver and the dam really doesn't.

I think the stallion is smokey black.

Thorwood... What a beautiful colt!! Oohh! Good job you are so far away or I would be seriously interested in him... what a lovely face!!

:-D I reckon the mare looks to be the same shade that the stallion has matured at, don't see any reason at all why she can't be silver.
He definitely looks silver as a baby & my colt who has matured very "UN" silver looking now, was very similar to this stallion as a foal.
