Is she a true roan?

This filly is out of a sabino chestnut QH mare and out of a chestnut (roan??) QH (who has tickling and does shed out to look like a sort of roan, lol and has sired what look like true roans) his dam was a true roan. This filly also has a full brother who is identical in colour and roaning to her. And the filly has been DNA parents verified from these 2 parents. Her aussie QH rego: http://abri.une.edu.au/online/cgi-bin/i4.dll?1=2231292F&2=2420&3=56&5=2…" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Well she does look roan to me, interesting that her parents don't really show it though. You think it's the sire? Is that a bit of roan on the dams rump? Do you have any pictures showing the sire's ticking better, I'd be curious to see!

Looks true roan to me, and if you look closely at the Dams hip and flank you can see white hairs on her. Do you own the Dam? and can you see her year around because trues roans can look darker in the winter with the lighter hairs kind of hiding underneith.

sorry all the pics I have of him are the same colour, in his winter coat :( He has sired heaps of roans thou that look like her, I think hes a minimal form of roan myself. He has too many offspring (reg & DNA) to not be a roan of some form.

Yes the dam has roan patches, (the one on her rump is dust) but shes def not a roan IMO.

My friend owns the dam, she has no roan in her pedigree and she has shed out her coat in this pic.

He must if he keeps producing them but and that baby looks to be a true roan to me. So how are things down under, what time of year is it? It's just staring to be cold here and we are supposed to get a lot of snow this year.

Lol due to roan? grass beserk is good! Is the Daddy that nice buckskin stallion you have or?

Threnody Mon, 10/18/2010 - 22:13

Daddy does have roan in his pedigree. He's probably very minimal roan like this girl.

If she wasn't so dark and had corn marks on her hip it would be very hard to tell she even has a pattern. The lighting also helps. Since the sire is a chestnut and lacks a lot of contrast he's probably hiding it really well.

lol RRD :D

Heidi my chestnut sabino QH mare (eeAA) is in foal to a brown roan QH (EEAaRr) so my foal should be bay or bay roan, maybe brown in there too? So far the roan stallion has had 4 foals for 3 roans and 3 black, one bay.
my website: http://www.freewebs.com/lenzoperformanc…" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The bucky stallion is owned by my best friend ( http://www.freewebs.com/etongrove" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; )
I have a red dun QH just been bred to him now, and a bay stock horse mare I took up last weekend to be served too :) so I LOVE a grulla filly next year!!! but 2 healthy foals is the best.

Threnody he is very similar to the pic you posted, very minimal roan Id say :)

Very Nice I like Heidi, I'm pretty sure I have noticed and commented on her before. I dont have fb so if you get a chance maybe you could post some pics of the stallion on here, I want to seeeeee.
My daughter really liked your red dun mare alot, cool how her bars on her legs are really dark. My red dun Annie has them but they are not that dark and I can't see so many as on your red dun mare.
