Sabino roaning?

This isn't my horse, he lived at a riding stables where I used to rent a cottage. Everyone just said he was roan. I didn't know so much about colours back then but thought he was sabino roan not classic. In the summer he went this very roaned faded black, in the winter he was solid black if he wasn't clipped. He is a gypsy cob, at least 20 probably older. This is the best picture I have of him I think, he just didn't seem to photograph well for some reason. I wanted to add why I think classic roan...

1) the head is darker than the body which is one of classic roans main trademarks
2) the evenness of the white hair distribution
3) the "stripes" on the side which are fairly common on both roan and extreme rabicano

I think he's sabino roan, first I think his head isn't solid enough, and with that amount of roaning the front legs should show where is stops roaning. But also because I've seen quite a few cobs with this sort of colouring where it's more obvious that they aren't true roan

I think he is classic Roan, but I think he has either Sabino roaning or Rabicano as well- Sabino seems to be the most obvious- so, both, basically

All of the classic roans I have have about the same amount of roaning on their heads, some have more.

I have some photos from my last UK trip somewhere, I will find them.. I didn't see a single roan cob that had anything but a very solid coloured head and legs. I think he has roan and sabino, not that Im qualified to say so but it's just what I think based on all the roans I saw over there, he looks a lot different

Cheers for the answers all. I will try to dig some more pics out, I think this was the only body shot I managed to get. He went totally black in winter, no sign of brown/bay. He has a daughter from a black tobi mare that is black with minimal scattered white hairs who bleached almost bay looking in summer.
His mane and tail had a lot of white hairs in too.

Found another pic, indoors this time.[IMG]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v343/…]
