Rosalynn still has it!

I was riding Rosalynn today, who is 21 this year, and I knew she was feeling really good so I was trying to keep her attention by asking her to be round and do some shoulder fore and haunches in. She spooked at a flock of birds taking off outside the arena and bucked, but I stayed on. A second time she bucked, and again I managed to stay on. I don't know what set her off the third time, other than maybe the challenge of getting me off, so she threw in a monster one and off I went. I landed on my feet, walked over to where she was and got back on. Apparently she was satisfied that she had won the game because she didn't buck any more. An advanced student was in the arena with me and she said the third buck was mighty impressive. You spend years and years teaching these dressage horses to use their hind ends and apparently Rosalynn still can!! She still wants to be a mom again though -- I can tell. I'm still pondering this because her age scares me.

Wow! I'm glad you weren't injured. Landing on your feet is pretty impressive one of theses days I need to learn that trick. (although I suspect I'm to round)

As far as breeding her again why don't you ask your vet? 21 isn't THAT old. As long as she is in good shape and the vet gives the go ahead....just don't wait to long to decide.

Nawwwwww, I love Rosalyn!
I'm glad you are ok!!!
And whether you breed her or not.....Allow me to daydream....Who would you breed her to?

Landing on my feet actually seems to be my landing of choice lately. This was my first fall on my new property, unless you count when I did an emergency dismount off Isabelle once when she lost her mind and was madly galloping toward some jumps the wrong direction. I landed on my feet that time too. I've done it a couple other times too but I don't remember the details. It's a whole lot better than landing any other way! I tend to make a decision very quickly about whether I am going to be able to stay on in a given situation, and then it gives me that little bit of extra time to plan the actual fall.

If Rosalynn is bred again I'll probably lease her out and let the person leasing her decide who to breed to. I don't need any more full size horses and if I breed her myself I'll get too attached to the foal to sell it. I've had suggestions of breeding back to GG or breeding to Art Deco or North Forks Cardi. Any of those would be very nice. :ymdaydream:

I had to use one of the new smilies!

Don't you just love the new smilies -- LOADS of choices this time...and more getting added all the time. :whip

NORTH FORKS BRENIN CARDI!!!!! doooo itttttttt :o

and I, too, always get really happy when my 23 year old feels frisky. however when the 4 year old does it it frustrates me. only the oldies are allowed to feel frisky, duh.

If either of you want to lease her for the year to breed to the stallion of your choice, I'm totally game. B-) I'm not going to breed her though unless I have a guaranteed home for the foal -- with a contract and everything.

Did you know that Cardi's owner likes Rosalynn so much she almost leased her herself last year?

TwinCreeksFarm Sun, 03/01/2009 - 17:10

Trust me, I so would if I could. I *want* to own or lease a nice sporty-type mare for a year so I can do a test breeding with Cisco. But bad economy plus me never having any money myself? Probably not such a good idea!

What if you even just free lease Ros to Cardi's owner? That may give her a good push. Heck, why don't you even put an ad out for her to be leased?

Sara Sun, 03/01/2009 - 22:58

Cardi's owner changed her mind after her vet told her Rosalynn's age was a risk.

I'll probably put up an ad but she has to stay at my farm.
