Rethink on SW...

Been MIA here, but have been discussing genetics elsewhere, when a somewhat "raging" debate regarding the inheritance of SW-1, -2 and -3.... I decided to grab the bull by the horns and write to UCD to get some clarity whether SW-1, -2 and -3 are 3 different mutations on 3 different loci or 3 different mutations on 1 loci... I got my answer when I opened my email this morning... "Hello Diane, The three splashed white mutations are three separate mutations. Therefore, your horse has a 50% chance of passing on the SW1 mutation and a 50% chance of passing on SW2. Your horse could pass on both the SW1 and SW2 or only SW1 or only SW2 or neither the SW1 or SW2. I hope this is helpful. Regards, Angela Silva"

So that sounds like different loci on different chromosomes if you can pass both mutations at the same time or neither. When will they publish the paper already?!

this seems to be a cut and paste answer I've seen several people get if they ask if they are on the same loci or separate loci--but they never flat out say same or different loci, just that little blurb. Another friend got the same cut/paste when she was asking about her test results for a sw1/sw2 horse, so she called and spoke to someone as it confused her and was told that the horse would pass one or the other, but not both. Further adding to the confusion.
