Silver Buckskin and can't produce red base foals? Not sure if she carries Dun or not as it requires DNA from the Mother or father, which I cannot obtain. Her Filly Just took out Regional Supreme Champ cat A Miniature - I will be sending some hairs away to check if she carries cream too. What do you think? Silver "buckskin" indeed. Wowsers... that's one of the bluest ones I've ever seen. Although IIRC I may have mentioned another photo of her looking silver buckskin on the other thread (if I threw out the blue looking photo).

They don't actually need parent samples for the dun test. They did mine without it.

If this horse were MINE, I'd have her tested for brown. I really strongly doubt she's bay based (and thus she'd be silver smokey brown as opposed to sliver buckskin). I don't think a buckskin could be quite that blue.

Awesome on the homozygous black!!

Blue Moon Miniatures Fri, 03/05/2010 - 03:44

test for brown? what place can do that?

I am NOT a chestnut fan at all so I am very pleased she will not make more of those LOL! My new stud is Chestnut Pintaloosa so that is super that she won't make little red based kids with him LOL

lipigirl Fri, 03/05/2010 - 03:48

She's a nice looking Filly...can't say for sure if she is a smokey black but obviously it is a possibility.

Well, I shall put my hands up and say I would have laid money she was a Silver Black Dun, no Agouti so, please, do test her for Dun and Brown (Hoofpick, on here will do the Dun for you, free of charge. She uses hair samples and is not 100% but she is not often wrong!!!)
I don't care, actually, what colour the foal is!! :love
I would be interested to see why you think the colt is Pintaloosa, though?
Who is the foal by?? :sign

really that would be awesome, I will PM her :)

Cadence is most definetly Pintaloosa, and now looks like his Dam in colour. He is now a very mottly skinned fellow! He will be home end of April so Ill have to update photo's.

He is sired by Sierra Dawn Uno's Monarch

Out of Scott Creek Mystic Sonata(who is by Brewer's Orion Mystic, Son of Orion Light Van't Huttenest)

Oh so it's Orion's LP. How cool! :HB Have they been tested for silver? I know the Orion line carries it.

lipigirl Fri, 03/05/2010 - 17:59

Monarch is one of my all time fav AMHA stallions and his offspring are generally all of a good quality IME, congrats !

Edited to add - have you tested Brandy Snap for Frame - she looks a prime ...and your new Stud too ?

Blue Moon Miniatures Fri, 03/05/2010 - 19:48

Brandy Snap is LWO neg, So she has splash overo in there for sure.

Non of my mares are Frame, but Splash Overo instead. There lines all produce those nice visual splash overo's with the bald faces and white belly's, so I hope to get some interesting marked babies sired by cadence. :love

Orion's line does not have Silver, he is European breeding as far as I know, imported in utero, out of a Van't Huttenest Shetland mare(Dutch Shetland) by an "unknown" Spotted stallion (I bet someone knew!!) Mark did not actually breed him, but as he was out of one of his mares and he bought him as a foal he registered him under his prefix.
It is Buckeroos line that has Silver!
The mottled skin could well be Sabino, but, in this case, because of the sire, I am actually going to go for appy causing it as we have another anomaly on Lil Beginnings who has this sire and has unexplained appy showing up!! May I put her (the owner in touch with you, you could compare notes??
I do actually shy clear of calling something appy unless it has spots, I am afraid, so in your boys case I would put that he has appy characteristics and you are awaiting developements....it is only really that some people think that if you cross a Pinto with an Appy the result is, automatically, a Pintaloosa (this is not just in Europe, btw!) and as your colt is visually a Pinto at present, it might be a good idea to explain a bit more??
He is very nice, I do like those Uno horses, lovely necks, good heads, and usually a rear end to match, which is rare in US Minis, I find.

I've seen an AWFUL lot of silvers by him and down from him with no other apparent sources. *sigh*

Are you surethey are by Orion Light Van't Huttenest??
Cos he was a varnish appy pintaloosa, by an Appy o/o a Grey! Now, with the AMHA being what it is, that Grey could, easily, have been either a varnish or a Silver Black, especially as she is o/o a Chestnut (which could have been a Silver Bay.)
So, the possibility is there, it is just that I have never seen any Silvers by him, that did not have Silver from the dam.
Now, if it were Buckeroo, or even Hemlock Brooks Egyptian King, who was grey masking Silver, or Bond Peppy Power who was just a weird colour altogether, I could where it, but Orion was with the Brewer family almost all of his life and I never saw a single Silver by him in their inventory......
Now, stop sighing and go find me an example...name will do!! :booty

LOL Fizz!! Yes I'm sure the horse I am thinking of is him. I will go look when I get back from my trip and make a new thread.
