Question on sooty

How does sooty interact with grey? In the respect of would the horse grey out over the sooty or would the sooty darken over the grey? Also how does sooty interact with silver? Would it darken over the mane/tail (presumably the body points aswell)? I remember seeing a welsh(?) stallion/mare that had very striking reverse dapples(?) but I cannot for the life of me remember where I saw it at, kind of made me curious.

I don't think sooty would change anything about grey. Grey works by over-concentrating the pigment and then the melanocytes stop functioning, resulting in unpigmented hairs. You might not even be able to tell whether the horse has sooty or if it is the grey darkening the hair.

Since sooty is black pigment activating where it normally wouldn't it would likely be diluted by silver since silver dilutes black. Silvers' manes do tend to get darker as they age in general thoughb. The only reason why sooty is so dramatic on single creams is because one dose of cream leaves black pigment alone so sooty does not get diluted.

Sooty doesn't tend to cause reverse dapples, though it can sometimes accentuate a dappled appearance depending on how it forms on the animal.
