question from Argentina

Dear all, I posted 4 years ago regarding my foal (black/brown, who later tested black) and my mare (roan/rabicano, still unknown). You were all very helpful and kind. This time I am posting in behalf of a friend, she wants to know the coat color of her horse. This is him, Aragorn, she bought him this year and we don`t have information on his background. If these pictures are not enough I can ask her for more pics or specific close ups. Thank you a lot! mariana

Looks grey to me...? With the dark legs and dark ear tips I would rather point to a bay based color underneath the grey. :-?

Thank you for your answers!. He is young, around 6 I think, and I asked around and people that knew him from before and they said he doesn`t seem to be getting gray.

If he was a sooty palomino would that mean he is a sorrel + cream + sooty?.
Regarding sabino he seems to have a big white mark on the lip, I will try to picture it today.

The markings kind of spider web things on his legs would be from the sooty? he also appears to have a dorsal stripe, but that would be from the sooty and not from dun?

Thank you all again!
best,
mariana

I also think palomino going gray, or if not that, sooty palomino. You are right that sooty palomino would be red + cream + sooty. Palominos going gray will go through wild color changes. They often darken dramatically as they age. He's still young enough for it, particularly if he is a slow graying type. On the other hand, red based horses typically go gray quite quickly. So he could go either way. Very cool coloration on him.

I see a horse going gray as well - possibly even a sooty palomino going gray :) She could test him and then she would know ;)

I also vote for pali w/sooty, possibly going grey...got several palis (3 1/2 now - sold 3 last month - yippie kiya!!!). Two of them had the darker lower legs, but it was broken like with this fellow. What breed is he?
