Przewalski's horse article

It must have taken some serious work to turn 12 horses into 2000 while maintaining genetic diversity.

Originally estimated that Przewalskis diverged 6,000 - 10,000 years ago.
Discovered to have diverged closer to 160,000 years ago.

What's an extra 150,000 years? That is fascinating, thanks so much for sharing!

I don't know if I would say they have enough genetic diversity or not. I don't remember how long it was my old professor studied them in Germany and the Netherlands (I think in the 80's), but his conclusion was their appearance was changing from the original horses. His name is Professor Ronald Keiper, he also came from Penn State, but he works on a behavioral level. I believe he is retired now, but he did give me quite a bit of his research and articles that I love to read.
