Pally or chestnut??

This is my 2yr old filly Skye, she is a miniature horse so usual rules dont necessarily apply I know! lol :BH Her sire is a silver black tobiano and dam is solid silver black, no cream in either. My friend missunderstood who has just joined, has a mare on here (dam of her pally colt) who looks almost identical, so are they the same colour or is it possible that missy`s mare is a palomino and mine chestnut (I believe she carries silver but havent tested her yet)???

But is that because you know the 2nd mare had a pally foal? lol I`m not disagreeing with you, I have just never seen such a dark palomino before. :love

Nope, it's her tone. Her mane and tail aren't flaxen, they're white. Her body tone is the right shade for palomino (in big horses anyway) whereas the other... just isn't. *shrugs*

Thanks Acc.

Mis, looks like I owe you an apology, you have the darkest palomino I have ever seen! :love

I agree with ACC, chestnut on yours and palo on the other (unusual to be so dark on a mini but still...) due to the tone.

There are lots of dark Palaminos out there and with the addition of sooty - they can be very dark indeed -

I have never, ever seen a Mini Palomino that dark- but we have very few that are Palomino without Dun, and the Dun seems to lighten them.
I would only be happy to accept her as Palomino if she were tested......

....yes but as discussed in the OP the sire could have easily have passed on the cream not the mare - however Slaney - as you can see there are some very dark pallys out there.

the second mare produced a dilute foal from a red and white stallion as well as the pally foal from the bay / dark bucky so I believe her to be palomino

I am not convinced the foal she had to Marky was Palomino- but I have only seen one picture (or possibly two, it was what, a year, two years ago?)
Have they all been tested lippy?
yes most of them have because they were so dark - as you can see some don't even look Pally because of the sooty. I have now seen a picture of the mare's previous foal to Remark and I agree with Fizz he could be chestnut roaning making him look lighter than he is so I have asked for unclipped pictures. ;-)
