Odd markings

Sabino if that's a TB.. if not those back socks might be Tobiano. *Shrug*

No tobi, no frame. Sabino, splash and dominant white are your possibilities.

And please, if anyone knows the horse, don't mention his foals until we have a good number of opinions. I think his foals cloud the picture.

For anyone that subscribes to the ermines/distals = suppression theory, note that while both anklets are white, all but one small strip (that we can see) of the hoof is dark.

Sabino, but if it is a US Tb, could be just about anything else too.

My black sabino stallion puts lots of funky sox with ermine spots & striped feet on his babies.

No Idea!! lol

But I have seen a stallion very similar, hes was a purebred QH by Commanders Boy and was dark bay with those same 2 hind socks and small belly spalsh. So many of his foals had the belly marking and socks with ermine dots in them :)

I see sabino.

If you don't want us to know who he is, you should rename the photo. ;)

Could just be Sabino...I would have said Tobiano as well, though, but there you go!!

Sabino I guess. It reminds me of the bum spot on Jet Jetty, only in a different place.

His name might not mean anything to anyone. It didn't to me until I started researching him a bit.

I'll be back later tonight with an interesting addition.

Ok well this didn't turn out to be as interesting as I thought. The photo was posted under the wrong horse's name on PQ. The horse I posted was said to be North Jet. I remember seeing a photo of Naevus years ago and was stunned at how similar North Jet and Naevus were so I set out to find a Naevus photo last night. Finally found one and turns out that IS Naevus. THIS is North Jet:

What was going to be so interesting about that was how similar Naevus and North Jet would have been had that actually been NJ. Additionally, A North Jet mare (whose dam was entirely solid) was bred to Naevus and produced... none other than Airdrie Apache:

So I would have have been really intrigued that those two horses produced this one. It's a bit different now that I see what NJ really looks like. It's hard to say if AA got his pattern (or more of his pattern) from Naevus or NJ as Naevus has thrown many total whites and many loudly marked horses, but so has NJ (including AA's dam).

Anyway... still interesting, though less so than I'd originally thought.

yup, interesting!

Airdrie Apache was one of the first horses to get me interested in sabino. I almost bought one of his colts, before I bought Cory.

Sabino on Red males seems to express more wildly than on other bases.
Actually I have found that Sabino expresses louder on Red, whether male or female, but loudest of all on Red males.
So this could just be Sabino........although IME Sabino usually goes hand in hand with Splash.....

I agree with that comment with regard to some breeds but not TBs, otherwise we would see way more blue eyed or wildly marked ones like you get in Welshes and Quarter Horses. Splash is still pretty rare in the TB gene pool.

I personally completely disagree.
