New years resolutions anyone?

Mine are to be younger, smarter and skinnier =)) seriously though I was extremely fit most of my life and got back into very good shape after both kids. Over the past few years I have been through a series of shoulder surgerys that has left my right shoulder worse than ever, so I have put on 15-20 lbs all in my middle. Not good because although my 85 year old mother is very healthy, my 70 year old father has been through a summer of battling diabetes, heart failure and cancer. Soooooo my husband and I will start running 2 miles about 3 days a week and gradually work up to 5 miles. It's fustrating to me that I incorporate as much upper body work as I would like but oh well. Anyways I thought if any of you on the forum would like to join in we could have a little get fit & healthy in 2011 support on here. I know alot about diet and exercize that I could help with. I will be probably be starting spring quarter back to college to study to be a medical lab tech, "smarter part :D " but I think I can get a good start before that.

Well I take Amino Acids otherwize I'm sore for way to long, but with the Aminos I recover quickly, they may also help you feel stronger, but some days your just off or tired, depending of how much sleep you got or just about anything really. I tend to stay away from stimulants they just make me feel weird so no fat burners for me, but these are the products I do take and like. My Muscle and fitness hers recommended the CLA as well.
Yes it's always is easier to make a life style change when your mate is onboard with you, that's awesome. Walter and I have been running 6-9 miles a week in addition to our P90X and other workouts.

Following up a couple of earlier posts on this thread- I've been officially diagnosed with RA and put on some horrible drugs which I have to take either until the side effects get too much or they stop working, its pretty much a life sentence of pain and drugs and tests, great. Gonna have to drop my lifelong dream of ever having a horse now, will have to stick to just painting them. Sometimes I think I'll fight it and do what I can when I can to keep some sort of life, other times I'm tired of it all already.
I'd just got to a point in my life where I was thinking 'well, at least I've got my health' :-(

I'm really sorry to hear that Dogrose. I wouldn't give up on having a horse though, riding might even be therapeutic.

Well it's July so I guess we're halfway through 2011. How are those new years' resolutions coming along?
Here were mine... hahaha
My goals for this year are to get back into decent cardio shape, kick my excessive salt habit, and to get good enough at crack climbing and gear placement to do my first trad climbing lead.
I'm still in pretty bad cardio shape. But I have another 6 months, right? I tried running barefoot for a while before using those vibram 5-finger shoe things, but got blisters and kinda gave up. Will try again, maybe.
Definitely gave up cutting back on salt. Instead I've been drinking more water. In the mornings I drink weak tea out of a quart-sized mason jar then throughout the day I nurse a 2L coke bottle of water. Now my heart rate is much more stable and doesn't skyrocket when I exercise. That's kinda like being in better cardio shape...? ymwhisle
The crack climbing and trad lead ended up being way easier than anticipated, once someone showed me how to make a proper hand jam. I've taken my embarrassingly-colorful rack out for a couple spins, but I'm still super chicken. I've got a couple multipitch routes planned for this summer in Tuolumne, subject to my (a) growing the cajones and (b) being able to climb much faster than I currently do. We'll see how that goes...

Awesome, ladies!

I have reached a conundrum - mainly that I CANNOT lose more weight this close to my wedding. Getting wedding dresses altered at the last minute is dreadfully stressful and difficult. It fits like it was made for me right now so I think I can hold out a few months. Ah, oh well. I'm still working out and gaining muscle and endurance which is good. I've been doing a ton of jumping onto things, which is easy at first, but then gets hard. I've also been doing more core work since my core SUCKS.

I've also gotten this thing for tracking sleep and stuff called the "WakeMate." So far it is very interesting and I like it when charts and numbers match how I feel in the morning. Supposedly this will help me make sure that I wake up at the right time in my sleep cycle or something.

This fall, after all of the wedding stuff cools down, I'm supposed to start riding again AND I'm taking up driving as well. Fun fun. This summer has been lame as far as outdoor activities are concerned. I'm going on an epic, all-girl, primitive camping trip in a couple weeks instead of a bachelorette party (I'm weird, I know) but other than a few hikes I haven't gotten to do much. Mostly it's because no one will go outside. I guess 95 degrees and humid is too much for everyone else. :( My Mediterranean heritage is making me a little stir crazy and lonely. I went out to lay in the sun with people the other day and they LEFT. Because it was too hot. Ugh. I guess on the other hand, my sunglasses melted and broke...

Anyway, I'm seriously looking forward to fall because maybe people will leave their houses.

Oh how exciting your wedding is very near! I wouldn't mess with the dress at this point either..... I would lay in the hot sun with you and go on a primitive camping trip with you, sounds like fun to me :D .

I'm glad that someone agrees with me. My mom is very upset that I'm going because all of the crazies will kill us apparently. Of course, my brother gets to race on a sailboat to Canada. Somehow I don't think this is very fair. Hmph.

rodeoratdogs Sat, 07/09/2011 - 13:06

Lol, well I was just as active as my most active brother and only second to him on trips to the ER :D . But sometimes I think mom's think we are more likely to get hurt for some reason *shrugs*.
How primitive? you would at least bring a cell phone to get help if you need it right?

Hey talking about being fit....the abilities of the super fit human body never cease to amaze me, check this out.

Third Peppermint Mon, 07/11/2011 - 07:28

Yeah, I'll have a cell phone. Doubtful that it will work since the last time I rented a cabin close to that area it had a map to cell phone signal. it's liberating not being able to use a cell phone BUT we have long-range walkie talkies and are letting the rangers know what we're doing just in case. See? Safe! We also have a super nice GPS, too.

I'll watch that video as soon as I find a computer with flash updated here. Ugh. Work computers. I always feel clumsy watching really fit people.

rodeoratdogs Sat, 10/08/2011 - 14:13

That pic is super cool nerd, I think climbing would be so fun!

I have stuck to eating clean and working out and have reach all of my goals. I have lost 25 lbs and am still loosing yay! I never counted calories just watched my portions and tried to gluten free and as little processed food as possible. I also just drink tea and water with nothing added except sometimes some fresh lemon. I have added some severe vitamins to my diet :p , Amino's CLA and L-glutamine as well as multi-vitamins. At 46 I feel as good as I ever did, so I can't beat that.
I'm back to all the sports I love, namely Wake boarding. I went yesterday for the first time since getting back in shape and I was able to get up several times and had plenty of endurance. But boy oh boy I feel it today, but that's a good thing, if I could just wake board every day that would keep my in shape for sure and I would have fun doing it.
Here is a video clip of me Wake boarding yesterday, so much fun!
