My Lacey is a big sister...new colt... (new pics 06/06/09)

A friend just had a grulla filly born and she was SOOO dark that viewers thought she was a black and not dun at all... once she dried you could tell her legs were a shade or so lighter, but not much lighter. She is expected to lighten up until she is a nice silver blue color (just like her momma :love ).

As to this foal -- I don't know about the dark legs, but I would be suspicious about the grey goggle around the eyes. That indicates grey to me... ;)
Definitely looks gray.

CK are you sure it's not just countershading on your friend's foal?
Ditto. Not saying he isnt gurllo, but I have seen gray make a foal have very extreme countershading many times so Im not jumping on the grulla band wagon just yet.
^I think ACC's question was directed to Critterkeeper and not the OP.

I see Black Dun + Grey for the foal- come to think of it....does the sire have two Grey parents?
No the sire's dam was a bay & the sire was gray + dun or grullo + roan

Let me find the info on the sire's sire

Nope ACC, not counter shading - Comes from a LONG line of grulla duns. :love Both sire and dam are georgous although the sire is somewhat darker than the dam (they have textbook markings and tested through UC Davis).

The foal lightened up considerable by day 3 (once she actually dried off completely). I would love to have her, but she is SSOO far out of my price range that it would just be a pipe dream... :drool I draw the line at paying more for a foal than my husband's truck...
ACC, I would suspect that foal you posted as being dunskin as apposed to a grulla. I have seen several newborns just this past month (4 actual births) and they were ALL way darker that that foal. :flower
Well he isnt just a grulla hes a smoky grulla.

Still think he may go gray? (I know I sure think he will)

He's 1 month & 1 week old in these pics.
I think I may have changed my mind. I'm leaning to not gray at the moment.
Ok, do explain as to maybe why NOT!!
I tell ya Sneeker's foals do keep ya guessing cause of all the color possibilities they could be.
I really won't make a FINAL judgement till at least his 2yr old year. might know as early as his yearling year, but sometimes ya never know.
