My Flaxen observations...

#1. (visual) Flaxen X Flaxen = 100% Flaxen...no exceptions! #2. (visual) Flaxen X Chestnut = 50% Flaxen and 50% Chestnut. #3. Flaxen only needs one copy to express- see above. #4a. Chestnuts X Chestnut = 100% Chestnuts-will never produce Flaxen, no exceptions! #4b. Flaxen is only hidden in Black-based bases- otherwise it is expressed. What do you think?
Could account for some of the possible flaxen on Bays that we've seen in the past (in theory, that is) it may have to be F/F to express on Black base........
I came across a few Bays from (one) Flaxen parents, however I did not save those searches as I believe it is merely just coincidence!

You wouldn't believe how many searches brought up Flaxen Chestnut x Palomino breeding's!! I wonder if they think they'll get whiter Flaxen Chestnuts out of it or something...lol.

*chuckles* Palomino is dilute chestnut, cross chestnut to creme and viola 100% palomino! I don't understand crossing flaxen/chestnut with palomino and hoping for a lighter shade. If I have this correct with such a cross one could only get chestnut and palomino, not a lighter shade of flaxen. Hmmm, can a creme carry the genes necessary to produce a flaxen?

Please explain the bay/flaxen a bit more. Is this saying that a bay could have a flaxen mane and tail or that they could simply carry the genes to produce a flaxen? *blinks*

Yup palimino is ee chestnut and Crcr cream

I guess a palimino with flaxen as well might....not look much different cos any effect from the flaxen is covered up by the pali anyway.....

I think where they are refering to bay + flaxen may be tentativly in relation to the silvertail bays you sometimes see esp in arabs, no Z gene present in them. But yes a Bay could also carry flaxen and not express it.
I know this probably doesn't mean anything, but I found a grullo stallion that produced two chestnuts from two separate black mares, and both are VERY flaxen.

But if flaxen does not express on black (or bay) then a black could easily carry whatever it takes to get a flaxen chestnut. Grullo is of course black(plus dun)
