My dun filly...what should I test for??

accphotography Mon, 03/23/2009 - 02:42

IMO no need to test for cream (she's the wrong shade for cream on dun). Agouti for sure. She's AQHA I assume so you can probably rule out any white pattern testing unless you might breed her to a possible LWO stallion down the road. You know she's Ee. Really there isn't much to test her for.

Actually, you shouldn't have to test for agouti. If the sire really was a grullo, he would be aa. So this filly has to be Aa. Same with Extension...because the dam was palomino (ee), the filly has to be Ee.

You could test for cream if you were curious (sometimes cream is present but doesn't make a strong statement), but honestly, I think your filly is Ee Aa Dd. No cream.

Thanks y'all!!
That makes sense now.
Just wasn't sure if she carried cream or not

Would y'all consider her full sister a dunskin??

Second one defiantely looks dunskin, more so then her, she(your baby) looks like my regular dun I had, her sister looked to have a pretty good bout of epifisitis in the front end goin on, beware with her sister, it can do damage if not addressed. Keep her diet balanced and she should be OK , just have to get past that growth stage. Tends to run in family if they are sensitive to getting it.

So where do you see that on her??
Sorry this is new to me & so I have no clue as to what you're talkin about.
Dunno if its bad or not as they show her.

In the dunskin you can see she was buckeling over in the knees pretty noticable, while it might be conformation I would be more likely to think that in a horse her age that it could be inflamation .., most often it first shows in the fetlocks, after alot of hard play they will seem to pop forward in the ankles and seem not to be able to "lock" them in the down position ;)

See at 1 point I thought she was a little over in the knees but thought maybe it was the pic & the coloring on her legs...as the light color goes down the back...looks a little deceiving to me.
I think it could just be the pics & coloring as they seem to be showing her in halter classes.
So far with Jackie I don't see anything like that.

I thought to it might be colors but it looks the same in a couple pics from differnt angles, the thing is with epifisitis it can be there one week and not so noticable the next , she might have had a bad week when the shots were taken. Just something to keep your eye on ust in case, I had it to one degree or another with most my foals

even her ;)
