This is my friend`s foal "Slaneyrose Deise Silver Shadow" (born from parents I bred hence the name :D ) poor little thing had a rough start being a distocia birth and stuck with his head out and one leg in around his neck (I know!) for 40mins!! Consequently, he has swelling of the brain and walks.... and canters.... in circles! He is improving every day tho so prognosis is pretty good. So now his wonderful nurse/owner Paula, is bemused by his peachy hue. I`ve told her these silvers can be born in an array of "shades" but she asked me to post them anyway. :love [img]http://i826.photobucket.com/albums/zz185/SoberSatellite/sterlingsfirsfo…] [img]http://i826.photobucket.com/albums/zz185/SoberSatellite/shadowandOisin…]

He is very pretty and by the sounds of it he will pull through. Would like to see some pics of him outside though and get a better feel for the tone in his coat

Hi this is Paula the owner of the silver foal,I have never had a silver foal before and just find his colour beautiful!!When the foal is outside you would think he was white ,but he has a glitter of silver ,his head has darker shading ,his mane and tail is white ! :flower

Cyn presented the same way - super scary! I got Lacy up right away and as I was pulling on the gloves and lubing up, while the vet's phone was ringing, she laid back down on the other side and got him out somehow.

He's a cutie!

Was your foal ok after the birth!!My boy had jerky movements, very swollen head ,blood shot eyes, and is constantly going around in circles !He started to lose his suck but we persisted by milking the mare and feeding his colostrum in a babies bottle !He is drinking the mare well now !!The vet came to give him his 2nd injection to relieve the swelling on the brain ,although shadow appears much better it seems he has a very high temp ,the vets concern was that he could develop septicaemia after the birth!!So he has taken bloods to see what antibiotics to give him!!

Yep - he was just fine - a little swelling, but he was not stuck for too long either. He's a very good 4 year old now! Lemme see if I can find some pics - similar head!

Here he was after about a few days

Thanks! He's getting fat, time to start working him...

LOL - it was a spontaneous, stupid thing, but it will be with boots and a helmet next time! He's been lightly backed and maybe had a bit 2-3 times....

PS - that bond backfired on me for a long time - he thought he was my buddy/equal.

ALSO - yes he was a lot weaker than most foals I think. Wobblier, looser, more evil too! LOL The stallion owner --no it was the barn manager from my old show barn - not the stally owner... she actually told me I shouldn't post the photos of him anywhere he looked so bad.....

Cyn is a very handsome chap and a lovely rich colour.

Hang in their Paula - Shadow sound like he is determined and every day you get there is a chance. Obviously he is getting the very best of care :flower

Ya Paula! Hang in there! I will be sending warm and healing thoughts over to him!
Cyn is a very handsome chap and a lovely rich colour.
Since he's almost done shedding out, I'll have to get new shots - he's much better than in that dry winter coat! The new first few inches of new mane growth are almost purplish colored.

Jenks dont mind them!!...that second pic could be a card its so beautiful!!!

I know how worried you are Pablo, I`m pretty worried myself, anything to do with the brain is serious and now this high temp as well.....but he has the best possible chance with you as his nurse and hopefully in a day or 2 the temp will come down and he will continue his recovery. :love

My vet called to see shadow again today,he is just over a week old !!His jerking movements have stopped,he is drinking well ,is temp is now normal !!He has finished his antibiotics ,but is still having his multivitamin drops and eye drops.Although he is still walking in circles never straight ,and not very good at finding his dam ,the vet is positive that he can make a complete recovery !!He will evaluate him in 6 months time as the brain can take that long and longer to heal but things are looking good!! :flower

Thats great news Paula - so glad that little Shadow is improving. After all that marestare you did he needs to pull through so you can complain to him about all the sleep you lost :D
