Link to labs that perform color testing
If you know of a lab that performs color testing please list it here with a link to their website. I'm going to make a page for them. Thanks, Daylene

I think you missed dun on the list of colours tested, on the labs pages? I think it's Davis Uni that does dun for memory?

How about this one for the VeriSNP test?

UKY also tests:

Not sure I would support the VeriSNP anymore personally.

Taking too long to get the results?

If 3.5 months is too long, then yup. :laugh1 Not to mention I think they're strange (retesting Lace because it turns out she's a Paint instead of a Quarter Horse? come ooooon people).

Yeah, 3.5 months is waaaaay too long. Does make you wonder why they think she needs retesting...I would presume that the frame test is the same no matter what breed???

Re: Link to labs that perform color testing

Well I doubt it would be the frame because they knew she had it (that's how they determined she "couldn't be a Quarter Horse"... their words, not mine, and yes I did correct them). So maybe something else is breed dependent? I mean I did tell them her parentage was "unknown". :?:  I don't know of ANYTHING (but dun) that is breed dependent that they are currently testing for.

How is dun breed dependent??? I'm starting to think these people need :hammer and :whip (but then right now I feel like :sign and :BH with the court schedule and clients being affected by full :booty ...

Re: Link to labs that perform color testing

The dun test is currently zygosity and looks for markers that travel with dun not dun itself. These markers seem to not be present in some Spanish breeds.

UC Davis says dun is breed dependent, yup. However NOTHING should be breed dependent between AQHA and APHA. They're too intertwined.

Ahh...dawn breaks on Marblehead (old Bostonian saying). I was sitting there thinking that they were saying there was a breed differential between QH/Paint/TB/App/etc., on dun itself, not the current test...see, told you today has been rough! LOL

Yes tobiano is included. It's one I'm interested in seeing the results from. I don't *think* she is, but RF does and I wouldn't be shocked considering she is also frame.

It is true that they are taking awhile but it is a fairly new process if I remember correctly. Maybe they will get faster.

I hope to see this type of test become more readily available. I would think it would be much more cost effective for all. Plus I personally think that breed registries should start having test results on papers and encourage people to test for color and HYPP, LWO, HERDA etc.!! I am a little tired of all the miss registered horses color wise and picking out a stallion would be easier too!! Especially if you have a mare that is positive for one of the above genes. So few people test when they don't think it is possible for their horse to be a carrier. :argue I haven't found any Impressive lines in my girls pedigrees but I am still planning on testing them just to be on the safe side!!!

Ok, I'll get down off my soap box now.

Re: Link to labs that perform color testing

IIRC, the "delay" came because they only run the tests when they have sufficient samples to run (i.e., enough people sending in for that type of testing). Not exactly designed for customer service, since someone sending in samples won't know what is considered "enough" and how close they may be to having "enough". From what I've been told, a bunch of tests can all be run on the same sample anyhoo, and IIRC, one can order more tests on a sample previously provided (not sure of the time frame that a lab might considered acceptable from running one test to running another test without a new sample).
