Lacy's foaling thread!!! (No, not right now.)

CAM LINK: http://www.marestare.com/fcam.php?alias=paintedpurple AC's Painted Lace (barn name Lacy or most of the time Lace) is 340 days on March 31st. She was bred via AI one time on April 24th and ovulated on April 25th. I guess that puts her at 324 days today. YAY! Thanks to the modern miracle of fetal sexing (this one done by the man that pretty much invented the procedure in horses) we know she is carrying a FILLY We also know, thanks to the genetics of the parents, she will be a palomino. YAY! This will be Lace's first foal so we have no history to go on. She is showing definite relaxation of her hind end muscles and vulva but she's not totally jello or gapping yet. Her udder is steadily growing on a pretty much daily basis and is of a pretty decent size for a maiden. She has "milk" but it's a mostly transparent pale yellow at this time. It is pretty sticky and somewhat sweet though. When it first came in it was totally transparent, bright yellow, not sticky and very salty so we're definitely seeing changes. I've tested her with a pool strip twice just to get a baseline and the first time she had 0 calcium and was off the charts pH wise. The second time I tested her (Saturday night) she had about 50 calcium and and had come down very slightly on the pH. That indicates to me that she is changing and getting ready but still has a bit of time to go. He udder is sill decreasing during the day time as well. Her nightly routine consists of eating hay or standing in the far right corner (view with the water buckets) in her best imitation of a tripod (back legs touching, front legs spread wiiiide to balance her huge belly). She generally lays down very near her purple feed bucket and stays down for somewhere between an hour and 2 hours (mostly sternal but some flat is normal). Her agitation phase has started but it's fairly minimal at this point. No pacing or pawing at all at this time. The most agitated things I've seen her do are belly glares, belly kicks, pinned ears, startled jumps, and some belly bites. What I see most frequently are tail lifts, curls and angry swishes. All of these things are new in the past week or so and seem to be increasing in frequency nightly so far. She stays outside during the day (6:30am to 7:30pm approximately) and the cameras will be off during that time. When she becomes imminent or any time I see her as suspicious she will be left inside for the day and the cameras will be on. If the fencing of her new field is finished before she foals you may get to see a daytime view of her in that field but we don't know if that will happen. It should after the foal is born for sure though. Her ear was damaged in a battle with a sarcoid (benign tumor) and now curls over. CAM LINK: http://www.marestare.com/fcam.php?alias=paintedpurple Here is Lacy (Quarter Horse or Paint) on day 300: http://www.accphotography.com/gallery/download/33486-3/IMG_1990.jpg Day 312: [IMG]http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w65/accphotography/Lace/Pregnancy/IM…] Here are two views you're bound to see at some point if not nightly: [IMG]http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w65/accphotography/Lace/Pregnancy/Be…] http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w65/accphotography/Lace/Pregnancy/Be…] Day 320: Lacy in riding condition (3 years ago): http://www.accphotography.com/gallery/download/23927-3/IMG_9664-3.jpg[/…] Her udder a few nights ago: [IMG]http://i585.photobucket.com/albums/ss298/accmobile/IMG00766-20110312-01…] This was her starting udder (actually this already had a bit of fill): http://i585.photobucket.com/albums/ss298/accmobile/IMAG0142.jpg She is bred to Guaranteed Gold (Thoroughbred): This is a link to ALL of Lacy's photos: http://www.accphotography.com/lacy And links to photos of the baby daddy: http://www.accphotography.com/gallery/photos/canadahorses/donnas/ http://www.accphotography.com/gallery/photos/canadahorses2/donnas2/ Thanks for watching!!! She is TICKED off tonight. Came at me twice with pinned ears and bared teeth for NOO reason at all. Udder is bigger than it's ever been on an evening and bigger than most of her morning udders too. Milk is taking on a skim milk appearance except it still has alot of yellow to it. It's getting sticky again and beginning to be a touch sweet. She's been doing crazy amounts of yawning, stomping, tail swishing, groaning and evil looks. She also didn't finish her dinner again this evening.

She's definitely not far off.

What's she doing today? maybe she was mad because you were pinching her booboo's  Anyways she looks glowing tonight. I have that same grain bucket for Annie and Doc has a red one.

Oh she's hurrying about as fast as she can! Her calcium spiked up, pH dropped down, milk went from clearish yellow and salty to nearly opaque white and sweet, her udder is bursting full and het butt is liquid. She's ready. I'd say any time she feels like going she can.

She had a tiny little piece of wax on one teat this morning and drips all over one leg. Her calcium is around 800 or 100 and her pH is below what this strip will test (6.8) and based on the stages I'd guess around 6.4 or maybe even 6.2. Obviously her milk is completely opaque, thick, sweet and true white. Her bag is bursting at the seams and she's crabby as heck. She doesn't want to be touched anywhere which is new. She pooped and peed a TON just in the time I was there so she's clearing out. It won't be long now. I don't know if it'll be today or tonight but it will be very soon.

I did have 3 shoots today. I've already canceled the first one and debating the other two. I'll see how she looks closer to time for them (would have to leave around noon and not be back until 4 or so).

I've got pics but I need to spend some time doing a few other things before I mess with them.

She's in for the day for sure. I may let her out to move around some later fully supervised. We'll see.

One thing I notices this morning is her belly looks more dropped from how it looked on camera before. Really hope she foals for you soon. I am soooo looking forward to seeing this baby :)

Krickette Thu, 03/24/2011 - 13:22

I was thinking that too! Very low, very ready! I'll be watching!!! So excited!

Eta: Aww! She looks so uncomfortable! She keeps making little circles in the back corner.

accphotography Thu, 03/24/2011 - 14:16

I'm going to go out and let her out in the field or the arena... somewhere. I'm going to stay with her in case she starts looking like she's starting something but I'm going to try to make it at least 2 hours. I'll bring her back in right after. I'll leave the cam on meanwhile so you'll know she's still out. I just want her to get some exercise and get some of that energy I'm seeing out and let some of her edema down.

Thanks for watching!!

I may just have to come over there and kick her round the stall a bit- or maybe just chase her round the yard|??

Maybe she is an elephant??

24 month gestation.......

I hope she goes soon! We won't be in Portland much longer (visiting friends and CounterCanter/Sara) and will have intermittent internet.

Camera working fine from this end. I've had the day off after going to the dentist, been watching most of our day, thought for sure she would foal seeing our daytime is your night time but looks like I've got to go to bed now so she should foal in the next couple of hours so I miss it :)

Krickette Fri, 03/25/2011 - 08:11

Yup, its frozen up once in a while, but it works. She keeps walking in circles with her tail to the side, but I can't tell if she's uncomfortable or bored or hungry haha

accphotography Fri, 03/25/2011 - 14:46

No clue. She has huge wax and is dripping white milk. Everything's ready. No clue what the heck she's waiting on. I'm going to go take her out again in a little bit but will bring her back if she starts anything.

Daylene Alford Fri, 03/25/2011 - 20:29

Watching her right now looks like she could be starting. There is someone there. I can sometimes see them on the cam.
