Ok, don't leave us hanging! What is the story behind the horse?

Nice horse, well ridden! Love the way she sits down into the saddle whilst keeping her hands supple....as we so often rip riders (justifiably) to shreds, I thought I should offer praise, in this case!

Oooohhh Avispado. He's homozygous pearl on a black base (tested E_, aa, prlprl)! They mention him on the New Dilutions website.

Threnody Mon, 11/15/2010 - 16:07

He is very pretty. ^_^
Its a shame that black or bay based double pearls are not that common in the states. Honestly I can't even think of any that aren't chestnut double pearl/apricot.

I know this guy was tested and verified black double pearl. Does anyone know of any verified bay double pearls?

After so many years of only allowing basic colors (even chestnuts were barred!) into the PRE stud book.. now look! Were they just not registered or has there been a color explosion?

Threnody Mon, 11/15/2010 - 16:56

Yuppers. Another term used for pearl is "pseudo-champagne". So unfortunately it gets abbreviated to just champagne at times. So if a pure-bred PRE Andalusian and Lusitano are called champagne, it's really pearl since those breeds do not have champagne.

.......and what ever happened to the Spanish horses that were spotted and painted, like the ones that were brought over to the America's by the Spanish that gave us our colorful American breeds. I love those old paintings of painted Spanish horses like the ones that someone posted awhile back.
Gosh the pearl/pearl's are quite a bit darker than pearl/cream
Yah. And from what I've seen double pearl doesn't really seem to affect the color of the eyes that much.

accphotography Mon, 11/15/2010 - 19:07

Well pearl and cream amplify each other and create a pseudo double dilute.

I've not seen any PROVEN pearl/pearl on bays. I've seen some suspected (they have obvious points) but they actually tested out black. I'm not sure what to expect visually of a HZ pearl on bay.

Danni Mon, 11/15/2010 - 19:34

It's certainly more visually attractive as a pearl/pearl, than pearl/cream, on black anyway. There's certainly enough buckskin pearls around in the Gypsies, that I'm sure we'll get a bay pearl/pearl in not too distant future. Be interesting to see what it looks like actually!

I think calling a horse's color "black pearl" sounds better then "champagne," but that's just me... One of my favorite things about grey is how it can hide so much. I think we're lucky that they picked grey as the popular color as opposed to something like chestnut or bay. You can't hide as much as easily with those colors! Andalusians are my favorite breed of horse and it's so nice seeing such pretty, pretty animals with such unique colors. Maybe someday I'll get one. <3

"Black Pearl" makes it sound a really cool colour!! But then maybe I just watch too much Johnny Depp

Considering gypsies, lets hope it doesn't have all white legs when it happens!

Hear, hear!

If he really was champagne that would blow my mind. In an exciting way. There still is a chance! Hundreds and thousands of grey Andalusians are out there, you never know what might be uncovered.
