Isabelle is never ever ever gonna foal

I just went down to the barn to get out a horse to lunge and heard Isabelle breathing so I figured that was worth a look. She was breathing heavily and loudly, holding her tail away from her body, and pressing her nose against the wall. Then she went out into her paddock and rolled in the dirt and had quite a difficult time getting up. Her hind end looks kind of like those AQHA halter horses with the droopy butts. So either this is early labor or just one miserable mare... I'll keep you posted!

Oooo! :bounce :bounce :bounce So exciting! Now I am going to be stuck by my computer all afternoon checking for updates!

Krickette Tue, 04/21/2009 - 16:06

*crosses fingers* Do you have internet in your barn? You must keep us updated! I am so excited about this foal!! :ymdaydream: :ympray:

From Sara on Twitter:
she is quiet now, eating. Her tail is still held away and her vulva is gaping open. Her tail is swishing so violently the wrap kept coming off so I've had to give up with it. It's tied in a knot now. Interesting has become boring now. She's all settled down which is just as well since I start teaching in half an hour.
Any more updates? Come on - we are getting antsy here ourselves. Most of the mares I've been watching go through those early labor phases, calm down (usually start eating) and then the drop, push and pop that foal out (wham, bam thank ya mam).
:bounce :bounce :bounce

I'm ravenous so I ran up to the house for food. She's alternating between pacing and eating so I'm still not sure if it's a practice deal or the real thing. I'll keep tweeting from the barn with updates if I can't get back up to the computer. :)

What breed is she & the sire??

Yeah, don't forget the camera!! ;)

Sara Tue, 04/21/2009 - 21:32

Sara I know you're the one that came up with the ermines = suppression theory. This mare sure fits the idea and it makes me REALLY wonder what you're going to end up with between her reasonably heavy, but restricted white and Cory's loudness. This could be one VERY cool foal.

Let's see....Murphy's Foal Law...the exact opposite of what Sara wants! :laugh1 I think it is time for me to go home... :rofl

okay, acc, you're amazing because I had totally forgotten about the suppression theory. What exactly did I say again? I remember coming up with it because of this mare... I blame the sleep deprivation. :laugh1

Cory's foals so far have their dams personalities which means this one will be nearly unrideable. Okay not really, but hot and sensitive and temperamental. My ex didn't want us to even breed Isabelle (she was afraid of her) but she's just the sort of mare I like.

Sara Tue, 04/21/2009 - 22:42

And yeah, she's still holding off. Mira did this for days and drove me nuts. At least with the others they went into labor and then -- had foals. :D

No no no...you tell her that Aunty MP's nerves cannot take all this suspense and she needs to get on with it.

Just that you thought ermines and distals were a sign of a white suppression gene. Something like the gene trying to pull the base color back through the white. I had never noticed it before you mentioned it, but I have been paying ALOT (a ridiculous amount) of attention to it since. It has been holding VERY true IMO. It makes a TON of sense. It's one of the theories I've taken and held near to my heart and pretty much look at it as fact at this point. Obviously we may NEVER know if it is genetically accurate (ala a test for the suppression gene), but the evidence I've seen is good enough for me. I'm always VERY interested to see how a mating like this one will come out.

Wow. Certainly not a mare I would have bred... but I really like deadheads myself so that doesn't say much. :laugh1 I hope you get what you want!

Sara Tue, 04/21/2009 - 23:13

Okay yeah, I remember that now!

As far as Isabelle's temperament goes, I fell in love with her when I started her and she was the first horse I felt actually challenged my ability to stay on, over and over and over. It took me several years but I finally managed to acquire her. My kids refer to Isabelle as my sister.

Andrea Tue, 04/21/2009 - 23:34

I just realized Cory is going to have, what, 4 babies on the ground this year???? I feel so behind only having 1 :(
No wonder Cory is so much less "enthusiastic" than Frodo!!!! :laugh1

Sara Tue, 04/21/2009 - 23:58

Yep, and this year he will cover Ginny (Arabian) and maybe Phoebe (Lipizzan cross) if I feel up to having two foals. With Phoebe I want a blue-eyed foal that will grey. :ymdaydream:

I won't be repeating the cross with Tickle because Peanut came out cobbier than I want, although he sure is adorable and awfully nice!

Thanks for the compliments on Cory, by the way. That means a lot, coming from the owner of the most popular pony ever!

Are you having 1 or 2 this year? I for some reason thought you had 2 coming. I still feel behind!

And Frodo is pretty popular, huh :D
We finally came up with a Bud commercial idea... Can you say Pony Keg??? :laugh1 :laugh1

Sara Wed, 04/22/2009 - 00:13

Just one. I was going to breed Ginny last year too but then the Blond Thing and I broke up and I was overwhelmed and didn't want any more foals at the time. You may be remembering that that was the plan. She'll be bred for sure this year though. It's fun to get to see Cory's foals out of all different sorts of mares.

Pony keg... I love it! :laugh1

Andrea Wed, 04/22/2009 - 00:33

Yeah. I was remembering the plan. I love your pet name for your ex! :laugh1
Having this one foal is overwhelming to me. I can't imagine having the 2yo, the 2 yearlings and another on the way. When do you sleep???

Any change in Isabelle?
