here are two new ones of innishfael oro - his sunbleached foal coat is disappearing and now his pinto coloring is starting to show up well.

Re: Innishfael Foals 2009
i got a new camera, so i took some new photos :) here is an updated one of innishfael oro
[img]http://innishfael.com/userimages/oro110…]
and a new one of innishfael blessing. this girl is really odd, she is roan all over. all of her chestnut spots have a large amount white hairs interspersed into the chestnut and it is easily seen. she has so much roaning, if i did not know her parentage, i would have sworn she is going grey! it was not in her foal coat, but once she shed off, i was surprised at all the extra white. her dam shows no rabicano, her only white is a star and a strip and a blob of chin white. dragon, of course, carries many patterns, and today i looked and while he shows no rabicano roaning, i see that he has a bit of frosting at his tail head. so he must have been the one to produce the rabicano....

Re: Innishfael Foals 2009
How about "Near Maximum" Sabino???
I too think she is Sabino BTW.
What I really like is that any of these foals could come out solid Bay and still be nice riding horses.
Do so wish the Americans would let the horses put their heads where they want to put them, though, I would never wish to ride a horse that had it's head level with it's body at speed. no way.
But, nice horses, nonetheless.
Re: Innishfael Foals 2009
rabbitsfizz, thank you so much! that is actually what i strive for - to produce a quality horse first, then have the color i enjoy so much. i get very frustrated when i see breeders that just have eyes for color and toss correct conformation out the window in their programs.
and also thank you to those who brought up that maximum sabino idea, come to think of it, i have seen several that start out with distinct color that sort of roans out as they age. blessing has a half brother (also by dragon) that has almost exactly the same pattern as she does, and the dam is a rabicano/sabino. this colt did roan a little bit, but not nearly to the extent this filly has. now that i think on it a little bit more, dragon also sired a colt out of a sabino pony mare that had the same pattern too,he was palomino, but i am not sure if his color roaned at all because i sold the mare in foal and the new owner sold the colt right after he was weaned. not sure where he went to...
we only have one dragon foal coming next year here, so it will be a lot quieter year. he does have one foal due from an outside breeding that we sold many years ago, so he will have two more on the ground in 2010. it will be fun to see what we get!
maigray, you certainly may use any of my photos in the gallery. if you want to take some from my website, also feel free to do so. almost all of those photos there are taken by me, except for our win photos, which i did purchase and can use.

Ah! Thank you! I've been lusting to put them up forever! You know I love your horses and always have. By the way, I agree with sabino - we associate roaning with sabino. By the way, we have examples of a Gypsy mare who has extensive roaning in tandem with tobiano/sabino/splash in the gallery - mixed white pattern gallery.

Re: Innishfael Foals 2009
I have to say I am impressed with these foals. No offense but breeding for dilute AND pinto high percentage arabs produces some utter train wrecks, then someone like innishfael comes along and proves that it CAN be done well. :D
Realy nice horses, and as rabbit says they would all still be nice horses even in basic bay.
Re: Innishfael Foals 2009
Sheila,
Are you breeding any more after this year?
M
hey maigray, sorry i forgot to answer this post (old age setting in hahahaha) we are expecting one foal for 2010 and then yes, we will be breeding a couple more years yet. i had planned on retiring after this year, but i found as soon as you mention you are retiring, people offer you fabulous breedings you cannot resist! so we have four breedings planned for this year and will hopefully have four foals for 2011. thank you for your help on interpreting the color test results on three of my broodmares - we are going to take an interesting and fun turn in breeding this year.

thank you lilith! this is truly what i strive for - an exceptional horse no matter what the color. i just happen to like color and have believed for decades that if you pay attention to the conformation along with color you can breed a pretty decent horse.
to that extent, i have pretty much stayed away from double dilutes (although there are two cremello stallions that i do like - vanilla zip and raleigh's full moon) plus there are only a few sabino purebred arabians that i like as well. i am just picky i guess - i want my part-arabians to LOOK like arabians, that there is no question when you look at them as to how they are bred.
for 2010, we are taking on another direction several of my mares have been tested 'aa' and so we are going to be breeding three mares to black purebred arabian stallions this year. black is another area where i hardly found a horse i like, so i am pleased to say that i have found two that i would like to use. while i did not pick them for being homozygous, they both actually are, which is going to make next year a very DARK year for us! we will have three black foals, two part-breds and one purebred. i am truly praying that the part-breds come out with pinto coloring!
then dragon will be bred to a bay mare for the very first time in 2010. we have always used chestnut mares here and so have our outside clients, so this is going to be another interesting path to adventure down.

Re: Innishfael Foals 2009
Ooooo black arabs with the Innishfael treatment, niiiice. Don't know what it is but I have always loved black horses, there is something terribly romantic about them....especialy arabs. Unfortunatley as you have said a lot of them seem to end up where being black will excuse and conformation issues in a breeding horse, especialy if it has a pretty head.
If you don't mind me asking who is it that you like of the black sires? I have yet to see one I really think is decent though I haven't spent all that long looking. I would be interested in your opinion. No critique or anything (not really on without the owners permission) I'm sure no-one would mind people posting links to their horses with compliments. :D

My dream horse (literally) is black, blue eyes, and lots of chrome. No tobi. Plain ol black. Funny.
Re: Innishfael Foals 2009
I have always wanted a black horse! They're so pretty! Jazz has been my only black horse and that didn't last too long lol! But when she was still dark with the chrome and that little touch of sabino shimmer, she was like, perfection haha!
Looking forward to see your foals :D :D
Re: Innishfael Foals 2009
Just WOW! They are awesome!
Are these "frozen" babies? I'm considering collecting and freezing from Manyara before I geld him. I am nervous as frozen pops have less success rate.
hey andrea
no these were live cover foals. we just started using the frozen this year - three mares bred, two took first insemination, the other took on the second insemination. my repro vet is very pleased and so am i!
