Innishfael Foals 2009

Forums

i am new to 'this' board, maigray kindly pointed me here after the other color board disappeared. i wanted to share my new foals with you, it has been a fabulous year for us so far! first born on april 9, is innishfael loki. loki is by rlinktoblue and out of br peaches moore, he is 3/4 arabian and the sixth foal out of this cross. peaches has produced an unbelieveable six dilutes in a row for us - four of those were also overos. i say overo because my horses all carry sabino/frame and splash :) peaches went 361 days with this colt, but he was worth the wait. then gs april tscent foaled right on time and gave me a fabulous palomino sabino pinto colt. this colt is by innishfael dragon, my 3/4 arabian buckskin pinto (who is a full sibling to innishfael loki). his name is innishfael oro and his front stockings go up to his forearms, the hind stockings go up the front of his stifles into the body, he has side spots on the left side, belly white (how much i have no clue, too hard to tell now) and white under his chin into his throatlatch. not to be outdone, innishfael dove decided to go a few days early and make april a banner month. dove is a half arabian palomino frame overo and produced a palomino filly - wish this one had spots ...... this filly was larger than i expected and she will take a while to fill out. dove was bred to mechall (magnum chall x r melodic blus (rlinktoblue daughter)) we named this one innishfael swan. swan has an interesting blaze face and her muzzle looks like she dipped it in milk. two hind stockings as well. now i get a break for a while, next foal is not due till the end of this month and that mare traditionally goes ten to fourteen days overdue each time. after that, i have one left due in the middle of june, but she traditionally goes two to three weeks early, so this might get interesting. both of these expected foals are 'dragonlets' as we fondly refer to those by innishfael dragon. thanks for viewing and letting me brag/show off! sheila - innishfael farm

Dragon is wonderful! His color is really unusual to me. He looks like he's got some darker patches of gold and some lighter. Very nice!

we have a new filly and she's a STUNNER.... a little background, her dam is a purebred arabian mare that i rescued many years ago. she has a star, strip and a snip and then that sabino lower lip white. no leg white whatsoever, no belly spot. she has always produced high stockings for me when bred to sabino or frame paint stallions. the first time she was bred to dragon she produced a bay filly with three stockings and a large blaze, but not enough white to qualify for pinto. second time she was bred to dragon she produced a minimal pinto filly that is buckskin. totally white face on one side, two small body spots, one sock two stockings.

so last night rifa went into labor and i was just praying for spots. the color gods must have heard my prayers, because this is what came out:

her face looks just like her sire's

[img]http://www.arabianbreeders.net/Forums/u…]

now dragon has produced a phenomenal ratio of six pinto colored foals out of seven, with three of them being maximally colored medicine hats! three of the seven have been dilutes, but the one filly we lost at seven months we are not sure what color she would have been - just that she had pink skin coming up her sides so she would have been pinto colored.

i am just a happy breeder today! thanks for letting me share

Ooh- can we see some shots of the mare? Maybe this will lend some credibility to that suppression theory, or have I got the wrong idea of it?
Congrats BTW!! I love spots but I do not like cleaning the negative space around the spots.

Agreed, Angela! I love to look at other people's loud horses but I'm finding that I really like my plain bays in the Oregon mud. ;)

Wonderful! Huge congratulations! So that is Danu, Miri, Max, Sophie's foal..who else am I missing?

Wait, duh - Loki and Swan.

close! dragon is sire of danu, miri, max, sparkie (sophie's foal), oro, this new filly and the filly we lost prior to birth last year. the only solid so far is miri. so that gives him about 85% color so far, which i am totally thrilled about. i have one more to go for this year too!

loki is dragon's full brother and swan is entirely unrelated until you go about three generations back. i kinda wanted to outcross a bit.

i am definitely going to have to post more photos of this filly when she gets out into the sunlight. her medicine cap and back spots are very red, so there is no question she is chestnut - except - that on her hind quarters under her tail, the color is golden. she also has goldish spots on her side (i thought they were manure stains at first, poor lighting in the barn) i am thinking she is chestnut but just barely? is there a term for that? the gold butt thing made me think i have not been getting enough sleep lately.

i will post a few photos of rifa, this new filly's dam. will also post some of the mare that is due next, which should be about two weeks. then i am DONE for the year. this is a lot of work!

My gawd, my brain is going. I'm in the middle of a rather stressful period at the moment. I had forgotten Loki was Peach's foal, and Swan was the Mechall filly. Oro I had just forgotten.

this is ASU marifa, or rifa as she is known around here. rifa is 19 this month and has respiratory issues. her condition is good but not as good as it has been in the past, so i am going to retire her now. she sure 'went out with a bang!' with the new filly.

here is the next (and last!) mare due in foal to dragon. i am pretty excited about this one, but considering what a great year i have had so far, a healthy foal will be cause for celebration no matter what the color.

we came home saturday morning at 0200 from tulsa, OK - just rolled in after 15 hours of driving from the Pinto World show, and WHAT do we find? JAA Gala Dancer had decided to welcome us home with our final Dragonlet of the year. She foaled a buckskin colt who is just pretty as can be. Not a pinto, but this colt is really nice and we are very happy. All of Dragon's foals this year were either dilute or pinto or both dilute/pinto. this color is truly an added bonus - all of his foals are correct and look distinctly arabian as well.

here he is, no name yet...

wow - look at the head on that colt!!! STUNNING

I have always admired dragon and he looks amazing now he's matured.

Congratulations :bounce

innishfael Fri, 08/14/2009 - 14:35

thank you! i have truly been very pleased with what dragon has been putting on the ground. here are some updated photos of the buckskin colt- turns out he is minimal pinto, he has a thumb-sized spot on his left side which i am thinking will be enough to qualify him for color papers once he has grown a bit.

and some new ones of innishfael oro - i did photos and a video of him yesterday so i could offer him up for sale and have some current things to show. this colt reminds me so much of dragon as a colt, it is scary! he is just palomino instead of buckskin...

Just WOW! They are awesome!

Are these "frozen" babies? I'm considering collecting and freezing from Manyara before I geld him. I am nervous as frozen pops have less success rate.
