I love being the instructor...

I get to "buy" and "lease" horses and ponies without spending any of my own money! Here are two mares that may be coming in to be leased by students for the show season. [img]http://www.ridesobright.com-a.googlepages.com/splash.jpg/splash-full;in…] and We'll be trying both of them in the next couple weeks. I sent Midnight home today. She's the black grade mare I had photos of on the old forum. She was too smart for her own good, and used her intelligence for evil rather than good. She was really really good her first week of lessons, sort of lazy her second week, and by the third week she was nearly unrideable by children. She wasn't dangerous, just very gate sour and herd bound. She did something I've never seen a pony figure out before. You know obviously that ponies will speed up to catch up with a buddy if they can, and some of my ponies have even learned that if they cut their corners off in the arena that will put them closer to their friend in front of them. This pony figured it out the other way around. She would actually kill time to let Rocky catch up to her. She'd get "stuck" or even sometimes spin a few circles to let him catch her, then start back forward again. I would have given her more time but I was spending too much time having to school her myself and I really needed the space for a more useful pony and also apparently she does not have a canter under saddle. Too bad. The kids loved her pretty black hair!

That's a shame about Midnight! And nice possibles leases, you'll have to get more pictures when they come.
One day I will experience the joy you have at buying other people's horses! :D

I have apparently crushed a ten year old who had her heart set on Midnight even though they had the most frustrating rides ever. She spent yesterday crying but her mom says she will come today for her lesson and try something else.

You want to be a professional, TCF? It's hard work but so satisfying and totally worth it!! The worst part is when clients get pissy -- like right now I have one complaining about her vet bill being high and I'm so angry I think I might kick her out. You don't get to complain about vet bills!!

Nice!

oh, and on the vet bill: I just talked to someone today in the coffee shop who was talking about my horses, and the only way i could describe them was "Big hairy critters that eat green leafy things....ya know... money."
certainly an expensive hobby.

Nice looking horses. When I worked in the racing yard we also had a riding school and had 2 ponies Snowball and Bart and those two were trouble with a capital T. In the classes you could see their minds working and almost how the spoke to one another because if they had kids that werent great riders then they took FULL advantage - I have never seen the likes before. Also when let out to grass together they used to go field hopping so eventually we had to seperate them as they would end up in a farmers field a couple of miles away by field hopping - the really were a pair of gangsters

Why yes I do. I'm going to own a 30 stall barn on a hundred acres in Kentucky in about 5 years. It WILL happen, mark my words! I have a small business now, some lessons and some resales. It's really for the experience at this point, no money is being made. lol

That's funny Banner! I've definitely had horses pair up before, as they all do, but never like that.

The top photo is the Appaloosa mare. I think maybe they took a photograph of a framed picture on the wall in their club room because it's all blurry/mottled so you can't see her markings very well. I'll actually have something to post in the "what color is my horse" section because I don't know what to call her markings. I don't have any Appaloosas so I haven't paid as much attention to that as I do to splash, sabino, cream etc that appear in my usual breeds.

Diane will shake her head in dismay at an Appaloosa with "pinto" markings as well. :-o :))
