So he's a flaxen chestnut who is homozygous for agouti and carrying silver. How very interesting. Interesting that his color reminds me alot of Lace, who is also 'AA'.

Adorable and interesting results - just goes to show you can't judge a horse by it's color - :laugh1

But he doesn't Palomino!!! I don't really understand some of the comments here.
I could understand you thinking maybe he was Red Dun, but not Palomino......

I never "thought" that Sunny was red dun - he doesnt look it and has no Dun in his immediate lineage so Dun would NEVER cross my mind.

I am still learning about colour genetics and I have only tested my 3 2yr olds as they have American breeding and its nice to know if possible what they have and dont have.

Sunny had to be tested for LWO as its in his lineage and now I know he is negative.
I also knew both parents had bay and now I know he is homozygous for that.
He was tested for Silver as the dam was Silver Bay and he is hetrozygous for that.
I also decided to do the Red/Black Factor just to confirm so homozygous red
Also the clip job threw me as he looked more golden in the flesh then he did in those photos and also there is a thread where there are pictures of proven cream carrier horses that looked Chestnut so I have now ruled that out.
Sunny is definately some kind of Sabino and I did the SB1 test to see if thats the one he has - I now know he hasnt got SB1 and if a test for Splash ever comes to light then I have 2 candidates that will be tested straight away.

Sunny has been covering my dark bay mare (which I suspect is Homozygous Black) so I know that if she takes then the foal will be either Bay/Silver Bay Solid or Bay/Silver + Sabino/Splash (or whatever he has)
I dont think there is anything wrong with testing to learn more and if you are happy that your horse is breeding potential (which I think he is) then I know the colour possiblities of what he can produce with certain mares.
