I feel sick !!! Land issues !

Well guys, I know you remember the issues we have had with the land but for the newbies here is an update. We live in a small village in England and we bought our house because it backed on to our neighbours land and we rent it off them, we are the last house in a line of 6. This was all great until they fell out and are getting divorced and thus selling the house. We had just gotten the ok for them to sell to us a little bit to us basically the end half and acre and also to our other neighbours as their houses also back onto the land and they wanted some ..for just having some..they don't own animals and it is only for grazing the land not for garden use. Anyway, shortly before we were going to appoint a solicitor for the land sale to go through, the land owner got told that the neightbours close to them would look into thier house if they bought the land but we are the farthest away so presued they would still sell to us. Anyway to cut a long story short the husband suddenly said that he wouldn't sell to us and not the other neighbours so, I got very upset and my waters went early and 3 week later as you know my baby was born very prematurely. Update, there house was on the market for all of last year and no buyers but it has just gone back on the market for £300,000 less then last year...this could really sell this time and I am worried. We have decided that we will call the estate agents tomorrow and ask them to approach the husband offer more for the 0.6 acre of land we are asking for and that we will also pay legal fees and fence it and see what happens...this is our last chance to own some of this land and to therefore secure what happens to our mini horses, we can always put my riding horse in livery for the winter and summer her out back. It has always been my/our dream to own land and I am so stressed thinking about losing the land so I'm just telling you all...anyone who believes please say a prayer for us that he will finally see sense and sell us the end strip. Sorry it's so long and thanks for your support as always. xxx

Oh Lipi :( I know how hard it is to come by land on your side of the pond.
I hope your neighbor loosens up and parts with some of it. You have to wonder why that has to be so hard? (your money should be good enough??!)
Thinking good thoughts and prayers.

lipigirl Fri, 03/27/2009 - 17:42

you guys are SO lovely !...... my friend just told me that I shouldn't go throught the estate agent because it might pee them off that we didn't approach them directly
what do you think???..we thought that this way they might feel they can negociate a deal and the estate agent can also alleviate any fears they have about selling the land depreciating the value of thier house.....I just DON'T know what to do now !!!! :BH

I think the personal touch would go a long way to getting him on side ,I know youre feeling down but things will sort them selves out eventually , just dont give up !
I totally understand how you feel , we have always had problems getting enough land , we rented for years but that was full of problems - spending small fortunes on repairing somebody elses fencing  or arriving at the field to find the owner had put another horse in , I had a mare and foal turned out , I asked the land owner to keep an eye on the newborn foal only to arrive and find that hed put his young stallion in "for company " ! neighbours tipping wheelbarrows full of grass clippings or downfall apples
we do have a house with a few acres of our own now but I would still like more , when we moved here the seller promised an extra 4 or 5 acres but changed his mind at the last minute , recently we were trying to buy a small farm thats next door to us but the recession has put a stop to that too ( we cant sell our place ) , I thought land was hard to come by when I was in england but in ireland its even more frustrating - there are empty grass fields EVERYWHERE Im surrounded by grass , but they wont sell it or rent it , it justs sits there ......overgrown and wasted

hope you can get some land! it sounds like youve had the run around for too long :(

I thinkt he personal touch is the way to go with the buyer

vneerland Sat, 03/28/2009 - 10:02

Go bake him a cake Lippi! (or on second thought, maybe not. Depends on your domestic skills) \
How about contacting the real estate agent and asking them to explain to the seller why you made the offer this way?

lipigirl Sat, 03/28/2009 - 14:38

We have been thinking about it and we have decided to go round to see the husband, all of us including Brianna and tell him that we would like to offer more money for the land, does he want us to do that directly to him or give it to the estate agents....this then puts the ball in his court. If only I could explain what this means to us to him, but he can be a cold fish and I don't think he would care. So the plan is to go and visit tomorrow with the rent and ask then. I am so tearful, hav ejust spoken to my Mum who is back in hospital and she is going to say a prayer too for us, am worried about her of course too.

the only other hope is that the new owners lets us rent or even better sell to us.

thank you for your thoughts and prayers. Will let you know.

Good luck Lipi. Hopefully everything works out for you for the better. If he does not sell it to you now, maybe the new owners will giveit a chance..

I can't advise you on which way is best to approach the situation except to say that I do very much believe in prayer and the power of God to work things out for the best. I have prayed and asked God to bless you in whatever way is best for you. God doesn't always give me everything I ask for, but I believe he knows what is best for me.

Thank you for your prayers and support guys.

The current situation is that he appears to be away at the mo so we have emailed his wife asking if we can put in another offer through the estate agent - and we are waiting to hear back from her....at least that way we have asked them before we go to the agents.

I will let you know what happens.

My Mum is so cool, I rang her in the hospital today and she prayed on the phone for the situation...she is always so sweet and supportive even when she is not well.............she is my best friend and I really do not know how I will cope without her when the time comes.

Sorry to be so soppy guys. :sad

You will cope. In due time. She seems to be a strong lady and I bet she passed that trait to her daughter. ;) For now, think only good thoughts. We are doing the same for you! ;)

So sorry to hear that Lipi - you would think that the fact he has to drop the price that he would be glad of extra money for the land - People can be very odd at times.

I am like Sue too in that I am surrounded by land but cant get any of it. Here the land tends to be with rep schemes and mostly its cattle reps so no horses allowed - I mean what a joke. There is lovely field right behind me and I cant have it - it has 4 -5 cows on it for about 2 months in Winter then they take a cut of silage off it and thats it the rest of the time its idle - its so frustrating.

slaneyrose Fri, 06/12/2009 - 22:30

Oh Lipi...poor you!!! I cant BELIEVE you are still having this problem with that field...I had hoped they would have changed their minds, or at least sold to a nice neighbour who would let you have indefinite renting. Big hugs to you, and glad your mam is home. :love

lipigirl Sat, 06/13/2009 - 06:24

Thank Kim,

Yes we are still living in limbo where the land is concerned as the house is still up for sale with thankfully no buyer as yet and like everyone money is now tight so wont be able to afford to keep the horses in livery if we can't get something sorted.

xx

holley Sat, 06/13/2009 - 10:11

Argh Lipi - how frustrating for you... I totally understand - we are going through a similar situation, everytime you get your hopes up that its gonna be sorted someone stomps their feet and it all grinds to a halt.
I don't know why people are so greedy about land???
Hope your mum is doing ok xxxx

lipigirl Thu, 07/09/2009 - 16:58

My poor neighbour (the wife and she is a friend too) who owns the land behind us had the hard task today of telling us that they have a buyer set up - she will be asking them if we can stay on, on the land or buy some but hubby and I have even discussed today moving so that we can keep our horses......just don't want to move as we are so settled here and I want this sort of place for Brianna to grow up in.

If you can please pray for a solution that means we can keep the horses and not move.

Thanks guys.xxxxx

Hoping for a small miracle for you, Lipi.
But if things at first don't work out like you think they should, then remember that everything (seems to) happen(s) for a reason. Eventually, things tend to work out for the best.
Keeping fingers crossed for you.
