Horse(s) similar to Gamblin Man in pattern?

I recently saw a photo of Gamblin Man who, at least on his off side, looked as if he were half-white and half-black in coloration (top half black, bottom half white - as if he were a black horse dipped into milk). Apparently he died in 2002, but does anyone know of any other horses who are marked similarly to that? (thanks for reminding me of his name earlier, accphotography) :)

Is this guy frame? (TB)

I love that Sinatras Reply is splash. I didn't know that. You mention his pedigree being a good indicator, accphotography. Are there other Puchilinguis who are splash that you know of? (fingers crossed - I just love those Puchis) Puchi himself wasn't one (?).

I'll check the eyes in the future, Morgan, to try to guess at splash. Interesting.

And earlier, when "stars" are mentioned in relation to splash, that just means a star on the face, yes, rather than some nifty body marking called a 'star'?
Yes he is frame. Horses from the Racey Remarque line and the Blue Ghazi line (who have the appropriate markings and/or test positive) are frame. There are supposedly no other frames in Thoroughbreds outside of those families, but I wouldn't be surprised if another line showed up someday as frame can be rather minimal many times.

Sinatra's Reply pretty much IS the proof Puchi was splash IMO. His dam apparently had blue eyes, so she could have been the sole carrier, however I don't think so. I've seen ALOT of evidence supporting Puchi having been splash. I'll get RMT to come over here. She was the one who initially brought it to my attention and I suspect she still has some of the evidence.

This is Sinatra's dam, if you hadn't already seen her:

She certainly looks like she alone could have caused Sinatra, but i honestly think Puchi helped.

Swoon :love :love :love ... I've seen photos of her, and so wish I'd had the chance to see her in person. Ooo la laaaaa. TBs don't get much more interesting than that!

I'd be really interested in learning about what Puchi might have passed on to his offspring. Would Puchi have been considered a sabino? (I'm guessing yes...?)

NZ Appaloosas Wed, 03/25/2009 - 19:35
But splash can exist without blue eyes, and sabino can cause eyeliner on a splash, so it's still tough. Just know if you see blue eyes, you're looking at more than sabino.
I wish people would understand that!! I am tired of running into "Sabino causes blue eyes"...if that were the case, then why aren't there more blue-eyed horses in breeds that don't have splash????????????????????
I just did a bit more Googling and found a couple of horses who might still be alive who have similar/very unusual patterning. http://www.coloredhorses.com/Splashpain…" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; shows some wonderful horses.

I'm actually seeking living horses to photograph, and it's surprising how hard it is to track some of these horses down! My favorite is an unbelievable animal named Anangel N Disguise (if that's the correct name), but there's almost nothing on that beauty online. And Kenos Dynamite looks remarkable. He's listed as owned by Penny Cates but, in looking at her farm's website, he's not on there. He'd be 20 so he might not be around any more. Darn.

I saw Encore listed on the page, Heather, down near the bottom. He's gorgeous! They mention he's sabino rather than splash....but wow.

Thanks again.
There's an own son of Encore not too far from me.
his name is Encore's Secret

Here are some of his progeny:

The second one, Shamen's Snappy Dresser, is out of a solid TB mare.

They don't have any photos of the foal from this year that is absolutely adorable. Has daddy's topline colouring, but the medicine hat looks more like a baseball cap--he's very Dennis the Menace-ish in appearance!
Pamela: That horse is AMAZING! Definitely a homozygous splash IMO. I would suspect a Gunner relative, but at a small show maybe not (his stud fee is insane after all).

Ahhh the "other" family, Barlink. :laugh1

Yeah I MIGHT have to go take a gander at him in person, since he's not that far from me at all.
I think he might be a good possibility for a future boyfriend for my Jackie.

PamelaTX Thu, 03/26/2009 - 02:31
He's very consistent in his production of splash. I'd breed to him except he's not the type I'm looking for right now sadly.
Yeah I know what ya mean.
I'm not a big halter horse fan, but I like a horse that has a similar build to the halter horse but can ride.
I LOVE my cow bred horses for sure...they can go in any direction.
Although Jackie I think may have more halter in her.
I really want to breed her to a homozygous black when she's old enough...I really want a grullo/a.
What's her agouti status?
lol I dunno...thats why I posted in the other thread about what I should test for for her.
Ok I think I have a version of the type of horse(pattern) y'all are talkin about.

My friend lives in Jersey & took these at a show last year.
Don't know his pedigree but will get it & add it as soon as I do
Bloody H! That horse is wearing a chestnut tuxedo jacket--complete with tails! :o  :laugh1
