Re: Horse/Pony breeds with Frame

Well, its not just the dark leg, its also the splash of white on the knee that is generally an indicator of frame. I'm starting to think that maybe it is also a DW thing in horses we know/think don't have frame.

I definately don't think it's a frame thing, the Gypsies and drafts often get that sort of marking. Seems to be a normal 'sabino' thing

I'm still working on breaking down the list, but I thought this horse breed was interesting!

Re: Horse/Pony breeds with Frame

I saw a pic of a tobiano (plus whatever) gypsy with a black leg on another forum recently.

ETA I think the white knee thing is a type of sabino filling the sock in from the bottom up and not quite making it. My old college tutor's KWPN gelding had the same thing.

Loads of pony breeds have tobiano- are you going to include them too?

Re: Horse/Pony breeds with Frame

I just updated it, I wanted to post the horse one because I wasn't sure I'd have time to get to ponies today, and the breed lists I was looking at was broken down into horses and ponies.

how old does the breed have to be? Like do you want something fairly well established or maybe newer ones....if so, you can add Georgian Grande to tobiano list...there is a farm not far from me that raises them, and they've got some pinto ones.

I know this thread has been

I know this thread has been dead for some time. A few things tho.

Any links about the spotted arabian desert horses I can read about?

What are the final thoughts of Frame being a new world mutation?

Tobiano Akhal Tekes? Since when?

I am 100% sure 'Waris do not

I am 100% sure 'Waris do not carry frame, they carry splash and creme (rarely, blue eyes are an uncommon occurance).

I motion that we should put

I motion that we should put CM's updated lists somewhere official on the site.

Adding my 2 cents I'm pretty convinced that LWO is a new world mutation myself.

I added the list to the bottom with credit to cmhorses and a link back to this thread. There is also a link to the blog on the White Patterns page. This should have gotten done ages ago. I'm so glad this thread got resurrected.

He is definitely tobiano and

He is definitely tobiano and quite possibly splash since he resembles some tested splash tobino ponies and minis with his pattern expression. I don't see a reason to suspect that he has frame overo though, unless he was tested positive by a lab. As far as we know, frame does not exist in traditional European Shetlands.

I do have American Shetland

I do have American Shetland on the list though, which this being the reason I differentiated it as American and not just shetland ponies, but if any european ones had american breeding, then it would be possible for it to be introduced, but I do not know if the registries allow that.

No all Shetlands have to have

No all Shetlands have to have have a pedigree of SPSBS (the shetland stud book in Britain) registered ponies or at least ponies that were inspected post war and registered as a Shetland as they are one of the oldest purest breads going still. He just looked it to me but I am not very good at the patterns

Check out the galleries on

Check out the galleries on the forum. They definitely help develop an eye for the patterns and their expression. ^_^
