I have considered testing this mare to see if she might be homozygous for Black. Even though her dam is listed as Chestnut, I suspect she is probably Silver Bay, like her dam. I've also considered testing her for Tobiano homozygosity, even though her dam is listed as solid, I have seen plenty of minimal Tobys listed as solid. Just haven't got around to testing and spending the $50 for two tests. We decided not to test our black Spanish mare--from long line of NO red!!
as certain she was homozygous black and then we got this lovely surprise :D
Learned to never assume again!

I went to the color calculator on Animal Genetics and calculated with the sire heterozygous for Black, Tobiano, and Sabino and the dam heterozygous for Black, Tobiano, Splash, and LWO, and the chances of a Solid Chestnut were .78%.
