Help re colour testing please

Re: Help re colour testing please
Based on his breeding, he is E? aa Zz so you are correct in all you need is extension (red/black). Also, given that he is a mini, which is a breed that carries frame/lethal white over, I would recommend testing for that just so you can be positive that he is not a carrier.
Re: Help re colour testing please
Hi everyone, thanks for your replies.
His sire is Rio Bella Farms im a Cowboy. I cant post pics at the moment but if anyone has time to look on Golden Oaks miniature horse stud website his sire is on there and my mini is Golden Oak Mochachino who is pictured on the first page of the site too!
Would the silver totally disguise the dun then???
Re: Help re colour testing please
He is quite pale looking.

Re: Help re colour testing please
I am not sure Minky is Dun, has he sired Duns from non Dun mares?
The gelding doesn't look as if he is Dun, so we are no further forward.
He looks to be a straightforward Silver Black, so you could test to see if he has Red....are you doing the "everything for one price" test?
Minky is LWO-, pretty sure of that, nothing in the pedigree all the way back, what is the dams name?
Re: Help re colour testing please
rabbitsfizz - Not sure on dun foals. I know he has sired buckskins out of not buckskin mares if that helps??
What colour would you say he was?
Here is another one showing his back if that helps..
Re: Help re colour testing please
Yeh I'd call that typical silver black? What were you thinking of with a silver black?
I didn't know they faded like that - specifically talking about the pics where he appears to be greying (I know that's not a possiblity) but the dapples and all? That's typical? (It may be my new favorite color). I love greys - and I often wish I could keep them when they are just starting to go - you know?

OK, Del's Cowboy is a Dunalino, I am pretty sure, and him coming out Silver Black is a bit of a shock, I can't find the colour key thingy...I keep losing it too! RDN I think, is Roan something, but I am at a loss to explain where it came from!
Short answer is he could well carry Cream (this is the sire, so your boy could too) and could well be a Dun!
* Just found the colour code, RDN is Roan Dun, but I am thinking it was not Roan, probably Silver Black + Dun.
AMHA is notorioulsy bad on colour!!!

If he has sired buckskins out of non-buckskin mares, then he'd be a buckskin or cream carrier. Are you sure the buckskins are not bay duns?
Re: Help re colour testing please
Not sure on the bay dun thing, im only going off the breeders website describing her foals.
supaspot60 - Im Sally... but i am Littleman on the irish forum!
Here are some other photos of my stallion Inky, just so you can see the degree his coat changes..

The gelding Ty, looks to be an obvious dun. He's not related though so doesn't help LOL!
I agree Minky doesn't look dun, silver/cream?
Re: Help re colour testing please
p.s. i think Ty ( gelding )is a silver dun here is a better picture.. (am not having him tested..

Re: Help re colour testing please
I was not looking at that gelding, I got confuzzled!
The gelding is a Black Dun Pinto, no doubt.
Inky is a Silver Black and yes, the colour changes, in an entire, are normal. Cody did all that, remember he is clipped in a couple of the pictures.
I am still not absolutely certain as to Minky's (sire) colour. He is Silver Black base, he does look to have a dorsal but a lot of Silver Black's do have.
Del's Cowboy was a Palomino base he also had Dun, so although he is a visual Palomino he is genetically a Dunalino.
I love your hair, I used to have mine like that.....change your name to Sally, it's much nicer than Stinky !!

wow i didnt know that!!
My hair changes colour more than Inkys does!!!
Should i have him tested for the cream then just to be sure? Could he also carry Dun then?? Sorry im confused.. easily done!!
Re: Help re colour testing please
And would silver dilute the coat of a black horse so much that it could mask the effects of dun? I thought maybe silver would heighten it's dilution but might still be hard to tell.
