Help me learn!

As I've been creeping around this forum more and more lately, I wondered... where do ya'll get your info from? What I can gather is that no one seems to like Dr. Sponenberg's theories. I mean: what books, articles, websites, journals, etc. would you recommend? And I have a fairly good grasp on genetics, so i'm not only talking about beginner stuff here, I'm talking the in-depth more difficult stuff too. So please, help me learn!

I would vote that most books, magazine articles, and websites will be useless because they're so out of date. You can go to this website or run through the articles about equine color genetics on Google Scholar to see what the latest research shows.

I've found lots of interesting stuff in the Heredity journal and Mammalian Genome journal. Mostly you will only get abstracts, unless the articles are fairly old. You will have to pay to read the newer ones or do what I did and read them for free at the British Library, do you have something like that in the USA where you can get free access to everything ever printed?
I come at genetics from a small animal angle- small mammals and cats etc. and a lot of the way horse people see genetics is a bit odd to me!

A good bit of our info comes directly from members around the world: one of whom is an equine genetisist at UCDavis actually partaking in the research that later gets published in the jourals; others are equine veternarians or students studing genetics; farriers; trainers; decades upon decades of breeders experances and so much research we are all in need glasses :rofl Anyway, this is how we often get the latest news before it even hits FB...

Thanks everyone! That really is one of my favorite things about this site, people back their info up with actual facts. And there's not a lot of arguing... it's crazy how a good debate can be totally ruined by arguing for no reason!
