HELP?? Found kittens and one is sick!

Forums

OK, my neighbor found 2 kittens on her way to work. She drove back home and dropped them off with me. Neither of us have $$ for a vet, since we're in school right now. I just felt awful for them. Brown kitty is sick, white kitty is healthy. White weighs more than my 1 lb kitchen scale can measure, Brown only weighs 10.5 oz. [just weighed white by holding her while weighing myself, and got 1.4 lbs... probably not that acurate, but she is relatively heavy compared to brown] Eyes have changed colors on brown, so assuming they are at least over 6/8 weeks old... Brown is skinny, I can feel lots of bones (the fluff is deceiving). Neighbor says that when she found her one eye was swollen shut. Now both are open, but one had lots of puss or something. Obvious infection. I called a vet in the ag dept, but he hasnt gotten back to me yet. I figured that brown needs penicillin, so I went to the vet supply store and he agreed and gave me some amoxicillin capsules and said to give 1 twice a day. I mixed one with milk and syringe fed her that, and by the end she was actually lapping at it, so I guess that's good. Both appear dehydrated, wondering if gatoraid would be a good idea? Here are some pictures, couldn't get any of the brown kitty's eyes. Neighbor would like to keep the brown one if it makes it, and if it doesn't she will take the white one. So we're going to wait a bit and see how they do I think.
The shelter in ruston is pretty full, so I'm not sure if they have room. And I'd call petsavers but they'd have to find a place to foster them anyway.

Also, took some more pictures.

Yes, I would say canned kitten food too, maybe mixed with a little warm water? They probably need pest control, lots of fleas and worms will really drag them down. I'm betting the brown kitty will turn black with proper nutrition, but if its fluffy it will probably rust back to brown in the sun. I would clean the eye with warm saline.
Good luck :)

we've always had luck cleaning eyes with tea water (black tea bags, seep them, cool the water and wash the eye) and saline. Hope the little guy makes it. So cute

So, now we have 5 kittens, and 2 are sickly. They got wormed last night and are much brighter and stronger looking this morning. They're getting a fleabath tonight, so that should help them some too.
Here's some pictures of all of them:

and there's one more healthy black one that I didn't get any pictures of.

So how did you get 5? I don't think they multiply without help, at least not at this age. :rofl I wish I was closer to you (and hubby wouldn't kill me). I'd take one of the color points in a heartbeat. It's my favorite color and I don't have one atm.

Haha, we went back to the source and took more! We want to catch mom and dad (and the million other ferals in our area) and alter and ear notch them

So much better! We're holding off on giving it shots, but she can crawl up the couch and purr now! And she's very demanding! The other sick one got adopted, but last time I saw her she was doing better too!

It is amazing how well at bit of TLC and change the fate of a baby animal...and those kittens are so lucky they were found...it is wonderful what you guys are doing... :-bd

Daylene, if you want a color point, I have 3 about ready to go ;) ...all flame points (all are a Manx/CP cross - only one tailless though)...

Well, thanks for the offer critter, but I think I'm going to have to wait for one of the 3 cats I already have to die before I can get another one. It may be a while...the oldest is only 5. Can you hold one for me? :rofl :rofl :rofl
