am I correct in thinking that the halo that surrounds the patttern on a pinto is the skin colour showing through ? does it only show up/happen on a black based pinto ? I have a yearling filly that appeared red and white but the red seems to be fading and it looks like silver coming through , does that mean my red and white filly is actually a silver bay filly I hope you can see it on these pis

Halo doesn't only show on black based horses. You are correct that it is dark skin showing under white hair so basically the white pattern is extending further in the hair than the skin.

I remember reading some where that when this happens, it's suspected that Sabino is involved. Any comments on that?

Given that tobiano and sabino are both KIT mutations (of a sort), I don't have a problem thinking that tobi could cause this just as easily as a sabino type mutation.
