I suspect that he carries something other than just cream to cause those amber-flecked green eyes and dark (heavily freckled?) eyeliner...just don't buy the "it happens" to double dilutes due to sun exposure theory (I've seen LOTS of cremellos, including my own). Now I have seen a champaign perlino that had that kinda thing going on, just now that solid...any thoughts?
Re: Green Eyes in Horses
o_O Is he really double cream? I looked at all the photos of him I could find, and man he is a very gold color for being a double cream. Any thoughts? http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/amberfi…" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; thats his ped, i think there is a mis type by them calling Chingadero perl.
Re: Green Eyes in Horses
just as a sidenote as I was looking at some of Desperado's babies....
are perlinos usually born this dark? or is it a different double cream dilute?

do they stay green though? I know when I had my champagne boy (my mare foaled him out so I seen him grow up) he only had greenish eyes for about a 5 month span...by the time he was a late yearling he had the pretty amber eyes. His sire had greenish amber eyes when I got a look at him/was able to ride him the day I bought my mare...he was a 4 year old at that time. I seen him a year later and they were more amber than green at that point.

Not usually perlinos, but smokey creams often are. I wouldn't be at all surprised if she was actually smokey cream.

That's been my experience and what I've been told too that the green is just a stage after the blue and before the amber.
Re: Green Eyes in Horses
I had a snowcap appy gelding that has very beautiful green eyes that turned into a kacky color greed as an adult. Last time I seen him he was 5 and still had green eyes and he had varnished out. His odd coloring and green eyes are what caused me to stumble onto champagnes.

I can't find any with green/amber eyes in a short search but I didn't find many close up head shots of the ones with the real gloss on the coat.
Re: Green Eyes in Horses
I've only ever heard of one case outside of pearls and I was told it died very young and seemed to have some significant health problem. The only other one I can think of was not truly green but appeared to be some odd mutation (very strange color) but also died at a young age (this one just due to colic so not suspected to be a health problem but it's possible).
